Black Ops II Pre-Match Freezing Issues? Try This Simple Fix

Many PS3 gamers have reported issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops II multiplayer, and Treyarch has said they're aware of the reports.

In fact, they have delivered a 56MB update, which presumably addresses some of the bigger technical glitches, such as the ones involving connectivity, matchmaking, and framerate. However, there are other lingering eccentricities, so some players are experimenting with easy fixes.

For example, a Reddit user has discovered what may cause the various pre-match freezing issue:

"I figured out that it's from looking at players emblems. DO NOT HAVE A PLAYER HIGHLIGHTED WHEN THE COUNTDOWN REACHES 0 FOR THE GAME TO START. I stopped doing that and I haven't had a problem since. And I tested it out to make sure that really was the problem, and yep the shit froze."

Of course, we'll probably need another update from the developers before things even out even more. For the record, not everyone is having such issues; I don't recall running into many problems during my play time, and most people I know haven't reported any problems. But so long as there are those who are having bad experiences with the game, it's certainly Treyarch's duty to fix things.

First off so far I believe the game is deserving of it's review scores. But, we are seeing just how immune this game is to these issues. I really enjoy CoD, it's one of my favorite franchises this generation. But I'll be the first to admit these games are released with more problems than the average is.

This isn't anything new for this series and yes Treyarch is ussuing patches, but should they even have to? Every year we get a game with connection problems, matchmaking problems, lag issues, framerate drops, and the list typically goes on. And all the way up until the next game releases, those issues still exist, specifically in the matchmaking.

Now again, I believe CoD is being reviewed fairly, but now I'm fully confident others are not, and that CoD is immune to this.

But I am happy to see some patches, because these issues really shouldn't exist. I have no problems matchmaking in any other games.

Well they gotta hit that release date every year or there will be hell to pay.

But is this typical for COD overall, or just the PS3 version?

It's typical...

I have friends who only play exclusives on the PS3 and all their other gaming is done on the 360. And we seem to talk about this every year regardless.

Its typical beam, and I think its is unfair that they get free passes for this as well. It is a decent and fun game but I hate how they get away with this JUST because its CoD.

The patch helped but now I get my sound all messed up when I'm playing sometimes so its kind of crappy. Hopefully they iron it out as I'm actually sort of enjoying this one.

Reminds me of an I Am Alive glitch, the game would only work if you turned off your internet connection before starting it, lol.

I only played for about an hour online. So far no freezing in the Wii U version.

I wasn't. I managed to hold since the first Modern Warfare but since it was on sale and it's one of the only two shooters that launched with the system I made an exception.

Does the tablet have to be held up level with the TV? Is the sensor bar the same?

You can rest the gamepad in your lap while you play like any other controller. When playing multiplayer the entire map is shown on the gamepad's screen as well as your load outs. You can change your class by touching the desired class. If you wish to use the Wiiremote and nunchuck you just have to set it up like you would the original Wii. It comes with a sensor bar and once you dial in the preferred settings it plays a lot like Metroid Prime 3 did on the Wii.

I read the review of the WiiU over at Kotaku. It actually made me semi-curious on the console.
I don't think I'll get me one, but I more understood the concept of that console.

(well written review too, btw)

Me too, I never look at other gamers emblems and mine froze 4 times yesterday. Kind of a bummer since the game itself is so good.

Thankfully the patch seems to have fixed the freezing - and the 'looking for more players to balance teams' when the lobby was already full issue - it was a frustrating few days - but life is good again.

Can't speak for everyone else but I had the freezing issues. I had a lot of them in the MP and once in the campaign.

Treyarch released a patch, the problems went away straight away. No need for fancy magic tricks, it just works and works well.

One of my biggest gripes with the original BLOPs was how long it took for all the fixes to be released for the PS3, it was terribly supported at the beginning. So I'm almost ready to forgive Treyarch if they keep supporting the PS3 like they've been doing with the new BLOPs.

Although I still wish we lived in a time when games released without needing patches.

When I played it would freeze every couple of games, but when the patch came out it's running pretty smooth and it's not freezing up my system it only froze one time, but it has been smooth sailing so far. And the texture Install made the game look a bit better as well.

I'm still experiencing some freezing issues once in a match..but not nearly as often since the 1.03 patch came out..this freezing crap just makes me play another game b/c I still have bad memories of YLOD when playing MW2 a few years back..

My last one that's for sure. Tired of how they treat us PS3 users.
