Black Ops II Outsells Black Ops, But Not Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is yet another blockbuster for Activision, as if that comes as any gigantic surprise.
But although the title managed to outsell its predecessor in the first week of availability, it apparently didn't top last year's Modern Warfare 3.
According to VGChartz, Black Ops II moved 11.22 million units in the first week; the 360 version sold 6.21 million, a 55% market share. The PS3 version sold 4.61 million and the PC version sold a little over 400k. This means that BOII outsold the original by 5% (or about 550,000 copies), but the first-week record remains with MW3, which sold 13.45 million in the initial seven-day period. These stats are just freakin' astronomical.
Of course, the numbers aren't official until we see them from the NPD or Activision but they're probably pretty accurate. Are you one of the many millions to have already played Black Ops II?

COD never sells well on PC though simply because there always sh*t ports!
i remember getting both MW2, BO and MW3 on launch day and neither were playable.
so many bugs the console versions did not have, and about as well optimized as freaking crysis!
i remember MW3 launch day wouldent run above 10FPS, even lowering all the settings made little to no difference.
in fact nvidia took such a hit from customer complaints and service requests they had to take their customer support page offline for the week!

Most likely these numbers are wrong and it did beat MW3.
One reason I think this is because a lot more people are going to have gotten this game on PC because Treyarch makes dedicated servers for the PC crowd. I have seen this close to the top on the steam best sellers list, even now its like top 5 and steam is having a crazy thanksgiving sale.

But either way, first week sales might be down from MW3 but I bet over the 2 month release window until after Christmas, it'll be higher. This isn't the start of a decline, consumer patterns change, and I'm sure there's still some that are just waiting for Christmas.

I do know that people had REALLY high expectations for MW3 though because of infinity ward making it. I still think people might be burnt out from CoD but who knows.
I know that for some reason a lot of people hate the treyarch CoDs but I like them a whole lot more, save for MW1.

the switch to the modern era did not help it either.
it did not go far enough with the modern tech, i mean besides cool scopes and those bots there really was not much future tech to use.
the convoluted story did not help either.
they tried to be IW, and thats whats hurt the sales.
people have liked treyarchs games because they were so different from IW, but sadly the start of the year apparently a bill passed saying its illegal for games to be different so they had to change it.
sigh.

To give some context - the jobs numbers you get over there from your BLS (Bureau of Labor Stats) also have some degree of error, and get revised each month, sometimes by tens of thousands, but they are far, _far_ more accurate than VGChartz' initial estimates.
Edit: There's no shame in this - VGChartz doesn't have the resources and I'd wager anywhere near the statistical expertise of the BLS, and nor should it be expected to.
