EA Games Boss: Fans Needn't Worry About Dead Space 3

The fans are still skeptical (and even annoyed), but EA Games vice president Patrick Soderlund has repeated what EA has already said many times:

Dead Space 3 will not abandon that which made the first two titles so freaky. In other words, that survival/horror element will still be in full effect, despite the addition of more action.

In speaking to OXM UK, Soderlund tried to explain why all the trailers for the upcoming sequel have showed off so much slam-bang action. Essentially, they wanted to show gamers what's different about the title:

"...and I said: 'You know what, we need to apply the same thinking to marketing as we do on our games'. It's easy to get into a habit. We should ask ourselves: 'Why are we doing it this way? What's the message that we want to give the consumer? Is this really reflecting what the game is?'

In the case of Dead Space the first thing we showed was what the team decided to do in the trailers, and then all we heard was: 'Well this is not Dead Space, I want indoor horror scenes.' And like, yeah, it's in the game too, but they wanted to show you what they added to the game that they think is awesome, because they love Dead Space."

In the end, Soderlund says the fans should simply trust developer Visceral Games "because they made two other awesome games" and they're not going to ditch what the series is about. All of this is very important, and will hopefully appease some of the Dead Space followers who have looked at the third series entry with a mix of disappointment and irritation. For now, we're willing to take EA's word on the matter. ...for now.

The perfect blend of action and survival horror, none has ever achieve that while balancing in the middle.
Will Visceral pull it off?

We'll see when it's here, for now, I trust their words.

I think that's the problem, devs feel like it's the same game if it adds a bunch of action on top of the game's base. That isn't what we want, we want the base to be expanded instead.

The AI partner is enough to turn me off.

They had me with DS1.

They lost me with DS2.

I await reviews and/or a price drop before getting DS3.

I love the Dead Space universe so I will be buying this D1 regardless of reviews or AI partner. I have stated in the past how the AI partner should be handled if you are actually playing SP and not COOP. It would be great if they would do something different in this regards. Here's hoping this great dev pulls it off and we received the best of the trilogy!

I have faith in this game being great. More action doesn't equate to a bad game. If the atmosphere is still there I'm willing to give it a fair shot.

Trust EA? That's what they said when they bought exclusive rights to NFL football. I'll be waiting for several reviews (read: at least until Ben gets to this one!) before I make a decision.

touchyourtoes nailed it. Let's wait and see.
