Kojima: I Haven't Shown The World What I Might Be Capable Of
You know, Hideo, if you're going to be known for something, you could do a lot worse than Metal Gear Solid.
In a recent EGM interview, the MGS guru said he believes he has a lot more to offer, and doesn't want to be known only as the "Metal Gear creator."
"I'll admit that I hope my future endeavors are thought of as 'works by Hideo Kojima' rather than 'from the creator of Metal Gear. I haven't really shown the world what else I might be capable of yet. This may sound pretentious, but I don't like being thought of as 'the Metal Gear guy.' There's a lot more I can do."
Of course, it's not that Kojima isn't proud of MGS and he intends to use the franchise as a gateway to new projects, saying- "I'm introducing concepts intended for entirely new intellectual properties using the Metal Gear brand." We'd definitely be interested in seeing what this guy could create outside the realm of MGS, although we never want the esteemed series to disappear entirely. And it probably won't.

If we look at the career of a successful artist within any entertainment business, we typically find his/her most innovative and creative moments during the first half of the career, while the latter half floats on the merits from the first. That is *almost* a rule without exception.

I'm not talking about commercialism here. Give me some examples of artists who's done their most creative work, or even *as* creative work, in their late days?
Take David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Rolling Stones, Prince... Gigantic names, fantastic entertainers, but at what era did they do their most creative and innovative stuff?
Not to say they can't still be great entertainers to the very end, but are there really anyone who question if the most creative stuff happened when they were young?
The older an artist gets, the more he typically starts to repeat himself. I mean... Come on? We see that *everywhere*!

Not that I totally disagree with the essence of your post there Jonny, but just for fun: Can you list four well known artists who are good examples of the opposite?
Cause I can easily more to my list above: Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson and Jean Michel Jarre. They all pushed boundaries with their music at an early stage, only to later drift into repetition and a creative wasteland.

he constantly says no this will be my last MGS game, than before you know it hes on stage announcing a new one.
how many times has he said i wanted to kill off snake in x game?
hes too protective of it, he needs to learn to say my team can look after themselves, MGS can look after itself, its time i went and did something I want to to, and wanted to for a long time!
he talks, but does nothing about it!

Metal Gear for those who have experienced it is unlike most video games and this is going back to the days of NES.
That is high accolades, because no matter how successful and lucrative your vision got, you never compromised your core principles.
Hardly any successfull person could ever admit to that.
I understand not wanting to be pigeonhold into one thing but Hideo thats like John Williams deciding he's done with movie scores and wants to write commercial jingles.
Not everyone casts a stone in water to leave a big enough splash to be remembered by \most of us will simply fade into obscurity.
Metal Gear lives and breathes with you for once be proud of it.
