PS3 Is "World's Most Popular Device" For Netflix Viewing
When it first launched, Sony said they wanted the PlayStation 3 to become a fixture of the living room.
Well, it appears the system has done just that.
Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) and Netflix, Inc. have announced that the PS3 "is now the primary development platform for Netflix and is the world's most popular device for viewing movies and TV shows from Netflix on a television." That's a pretty impressive achievement, wouldn't you say?
Said SCEA CEO and President Jack Tretton:
"The PlayStation and Netflix communities both share a strong passion for high quality entertainment. Netflix provides a fantastic experience for watching TV shows and movies on PS3, and our joint development will continue to produce innovations for our customers that further demonstrate PS3 as the true home for entertainment in the living room."
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings added that the PS3 "even surpassed the PC in hours of Netflix enjoyment to become our No. 1 platform overall." He went on to say Sony's console is a "natural fit" for Netflix in regards to developing and initially deploying the most advanced features. The free PlayStation Network helps a lot, too; it means anyone can sign up for Netflix with a connected PS3. Currently, Netflix has 30 million streaming members globally and is the world's leading Internet subscription service for watching movies and TV shows.
The PS3 was the first gaming console to support Netflix with full 1080p video resolution and 5.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus surround sound. So, when's the last time you used Netflix on your PS3?
