Journey Composer Austin Wintory Gets A Grammy Nomination

Talk about well deserved.

There's a reason we gave the overall sound in Journey a 9.8. And there's a reason it scored that high with very minimal audio effects.

It's because of the amazing score, which features a haunting cello that keeps you riveted in each surreal moment. Now, it has been announced that the game's soundtrack is up for a Grammy Award. Composer Austin Wintory (Grace, Captain Abu Raed) got the nomination in the Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media category in the upcoming 55th annual Grammy Awards. It's the only video game to be nominated this year, and the first game to have a soundtrack nominated. Last year, composer Christopher Tin won the award for the opening song (Baba Yetu) in Civilization IV.

Wintory will be competing against the legendary John Williams for "The Adventures of Tintin," Hans Zimmer for "The Dark Knight," Ludovic Bource for "The Artist," Howard Shore for "Hugo," and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." ...not an easy category to win, obviously. By the way, the Journey soundtrack hit #116 on the Billboard charts and surpassed 4,000 sales in its first week, making it the second-highest charting video game soundtrack to date, just behind 2007's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.
