What Game Totally Owned Your Life For A Period Of Time?
For the record, I'd have to say I'm past the point where any game could "own my life" for even a short span of time. I still love to play, but the days of playing four, five, six or more hours...I just can't do it anymore; my eyes won't handle it and in truth, I'm happier with the balance I've got now.
But there was a time, years ago, back in my college days, when one game really was on my thoughts just about every waking hour, and my loyal readers won't be surprised to learn that it was Final Fantasy Tactics. It's just that there was so much to think about, what with all the Job classes and the unlimited number of ways to approach any given battle with any combination of fighters. Plus, the turn-based gameplay had me riveted...so many times I'd sit, stare, my mind a whirl, attempting to settle upon the absolute best course of action. Then there were the times when I just wanted to create the single greatest party ever, which was common for me in those days (I did that in just about any RPG I played).
Perhaps my greatest achievement was playing through the entire game without once losing a battle or letting anyone turn to crystal (you'll know what I'm talking about if you're familiar with the game). That's not as hard as it sounds, though, not if you power-leveled like I did. It was just a challenge at the start, really. :) I also just had to know everything there was to know. For instance, how do you get the Chaos Blade? Or where is the Robe of Lords? And how do you get Cloud? How do you unlock Nelveska Temple? How do you go about getting all the best rare items in the Deep Dungeon? Those types of things.
So what game was it for you?
