A Canceled Game We Wanted To See: Silent Hill: The Box
Developer Silicon Knights hasn't been doing well lately, recently suffering a big ol' mass exodus. In the process, some unkind words were also said about boss Denis Dyack.
But we wish one of their canceled projects had actually made it to store shelves. According to an informative post in the NeoGAF forums, one of the titles that never got finished was a game called "The Box," which was essentially a Silent Hill iteration of some sort. SK pitched it to Sega and it was meant to be an "open-world survival horror" title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Sega eventually dropped the idea and although THQ later revived it as "The Ritualyst," the project just never got off the ground. Details as to why are scarce.
It was canceled back in 2009, which is unfortunate. We could've used a really interesting take on the narrowing survival/horror genre. ...that being said, if it had turned out to be as craptastic as X-Men: Destiny, maybe not seeing the end result is a blessing in disguise.

whats the point of that, its not horror if you have infinite space to run away from!
oh nooooo a monsters after me, eh its ok i can just run away.
exactly what ruined dead space 2, the levels were FAR too open!
in fact as soon as we stepped back onto the ship from the original game a massive smile went over my face, and it was like i was back playing the original!
you cant have a open world horror game, whole point of horror is to feel trapped, overwhelmed, under equipped.
you cant feel that if you can just run away.
hows something a threat to your safety when you can just run away from it?

It's not like just because it's open world there won't be any inside areas as well.
