Nippon Ichi Has The World Record For Most SRPGs Released
It's the "bet you didn't know..." portion of today's coverage.
Nippon Ichi Software has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. And it isn't for producing the most consistently strange storylines for a certain period of time.
Rather, it's for releasing the most number of strategy RPGs ever. Between 2003 and 2009, the prolific developer produced 14 SRPGs (15 when Disgaea Dimension 2 hits the PS3 in March), and that's a surprisingly large number. I still remember seeing Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for the first time on the PS2 and getting very much hooked on it...damn Item World kept me playing for way longer than was necessary. It was just too addicting!
The problem is that I simply don't have the time for such games anymore. I actually never completed a single Disgaea title, and that's just because I'd put a good 40 or 50 hours into it but because I'd always get sidetracked with amping up my party, I never finished the main quest. And these days, my attention must be elsewhere. Still, it's kinda cool to hear that Nippon Ichi is the undisputed SRPG king.
