Bioshock Infinite Length About The Same As Original Bioshock

It's one of the most anticipated titles of 2013 and we've got a few more tidbits of information.

Irrational Games boss Ken Levine has been talking about various aspects of Bioshock Infinite, including gameplay, length, and the number of discs (one for consoles, three for PC).

In regards to length, Levine said that - for him - this new production is about as long as the first Bioshock title, which is just fine by me. Depending on how you play, that puts this year's adventure at about the 15-hour mark or so...? He also confirmed the existence of audio logs (staples in the franchise), and he did say that Infinite would boast more in the way of intense action, as compared to the previous two entries. Of course, this doesn't mean the depth of the game will be compromised; it merely means there will be more high-octane FPS segments.

Bioshock Infinite is set for March 26 and if it can live up to our lofty expectations, it will easily be one of the year's best.

The 15 hour length is good news to me because the original Bioshock took me well over 20 hours.

I don't mind the shooting part as long as there are some parts in which I can explore without having to worry about weapon fire in my general direction.

I very much agree with your last part there. I too hope there are segments with exploration and opportunities at gazing at the fantastic world and ponder about the little tidbits of information around. I though there was plenty enough action in the first...!

Beamboom -

I agree. The original Bioshock was the perfect FPS to me. Sure, I had to gun my out of various scenarios, but it was the "quiet" time that was memorable to me.

Indeed, if anything I would have been ok with less action in the first. There were plenty of times when I wished there was more time to just observe and consider the world in part 1.

I think the first took me 12-13 hours, and that was a good length. And in this case, I just can't be too happy about the promise of more action. Bioshock was tense as hell because of how rarely you were forced into combat and the enemies almost always put up a fight. I now have the feeling that we won't be seeing the same here.

its going to be interesting to see how the frame rate keeps up, some of the sections especially the recent skyhook demo was so fast paced it was hard to keep up with everything that was happening.
has me a bit concerned actually, i can see this getting a little too frantic and not only causing performance issues, but also just making it hard for players to keep up with whats happening.
throw one ball at a time, not 100!

Hmm, sorry to hear that though I worry that could be true. It's easy to overlook just how polished and user-friendly most games have become in the last three or four years. I remember being annoyed in Bioshock 1 when I'd discover a cool Ryan audio sample and when I tried to listen to it I'd be randomly attacked by whatever crazies were nearby. So I'd be listening to this dramatic reading of an Ayn Rand-inspired diatribe as I shot thunderbolts from hands and I couldn't focus on or enjoy either activity. Drove me nuts!

Just about caught up on the season's games I really wanted to play, so I'm hoping to use the brief lull before the TONS of awesome games start coming out to replay Bioshock 1 and finally give my unopened copy of Bioshock 2 a playthrough in anticipation of Infinite. Such an awesome series -- I appreciate it's innovations and influence on this generation's games even more now than I did when I first played it years ago.
