Analyst: Far Cry 3 Topped December, But Industry Slid Again
Typically, December isn't a huge month for video game releases, as the majority of heavy-hitting holiday titles arrive in October and November.
But there was one major game that launched in December 2012, and industry watcher Cowen & Company says it performed quite well. In an industry note to investors, analyst Doug Creutz predicts that Ubisoft's critically acclaimed Far Cry 3 sold 850,000 units.
However, the firm also expects another steep drop-off for the gaming industry as a whole, anticipating an overall sales slide of 21% with retail PC games taking an even steeper 51% dive. That being said, Creutz believes the industry will rebound in the next year as new consoles from both Sony and Microsoft are expected to hit store shelves in the second half of 2013. And you know, that usually spurs hardware sales of the "old" systems at that time, too, as the new expensive machines are in the public eye and prices of current consoles drop.
But it's good to see Far Cry 3 do well, 'cuz that game deserves success.

If new consoles come this year they should do pretty well if backwards compatible, even if they aren't b/c the long console cycle this gen will mean many are ready for the changeover. Most think both will be $400, which is reasonable.
EA will pick up THQ, Final Fantasy Versus will get pushed into the next generation along with The Last Guardian, and gamers will look at Call of Duty on next gen hardware and be unimpressed.

1 99% of this years games were MASSIVE disappointments!
2 we dident see as many games as we normally do.
3 people are sick of current systems, and there sick of playing the same game over and over again!
and more so there sick of ploaying the same genre over and over again!
im hoping next gen will bring a MUCH needed shake up to this industry, otherwise its going to loose ALLOT of people!
