SCEA Explains Lower-Than-Expected Cost Of New Sly Cooper

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is absolutely one of the most anticipated PlayStation titles of the year...so why is the price tag suspiciously low?

Well, firstly, don't be suspicious. And secondly, it's quite simply so a purchase becomes a "no-brainer" for consumers. This according to what SCEA Associate Product Marketing Manager Christian Cardona said over at the PlayStation Blog.

The new Sly Cooper will only cost $39.99 for the PS3 version and $29.99 for the Vita iteration, and Cardona wanted to stress that we shouldn't expect a lesser experience because it's a lesser cost. In terms of content, there's "plenty plenty," as he said that "price doesn't always equal quality or content" (which is true, of course). This also doesn't have anything to do with concerns about potential sales; it's just a really competitive market and you have to make your product as appealing as possible. And we totally get that.

We also learn that you can download the game on Day 1 if you so desire and there will be only one Trophy list (not a separate one for each version on PS3 and Vita). So, does the lower price tag make you more interested...? By all rights, it should.

I was gonna wait until it dropped in price a little, but after I read your post I went to preorder right away. Unfortunately Amazon didn't adjust the price yet...

I was expecting a $39.99 price tag. Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time is a family-friendly game and they want to get more people in that group to buy it. I feel the more family-friendly games should be priced at $39.99 while something like The Last Of Us should be at $59.99.

Anyway, it will only be $100 and taxes for both Sly and Dead Space 3. Easier on the wallet!

I feel like all games should be this price. I know I would buy a lot more games if they were. I was never into the sly cooper series but I might check this one out if I have the extra money.

If you're interested, definitely look into the HD Collection as well. Great games.

Hmm. I have been wondering if the game is going to be really short.
When I played the demo It was over in about 5 minutes or so, which got me thinking that if they had a decent length demo, it would show to much of the game.

This unfortunately has gotten me to think that once again... I certainly hope I am wrong.

Also I already preordered this for $48 lol. Guess I'll be getting some money back.

So Buy the PS3 version for $39.99 and get the Vita version for free huh. I assume it is still a cross buy title.

I love that Sly stands on that border between casual and core. The price is definitely right for this one... but I'm too broke to get a Vita. #firstworldproblems

Anyway, hope it sells(and reviews) well enough for Sony to let Sanzaru crank away on another one for next gen. A true gem of a series that should never be allowed to die.

i wish $ony would buy out sanzaru and get them working on reviving famous playstation franchises!
as for the price drop, there dropping the price because its releasing around so many big name games, and this is a old forgotten franchise.
both are not exactly going to help its sales!

I know Sanzaru might not have experience but could you imagine if they took a shot with Jak IV? Naughty Dog would obviously oversee and we'd finally see a sequel (granted I still wish Ready at Dawn would show some interest in developing Jak IV).
