What Game Makes You Feel Like The Biggest Bad-Ass?

I am not a big fan of playing as a hero that has difficulty holding his own. Or rather, demands a huge amount of effort from me in order to hold his own.

I don't mind a challenge here and there but above all, I want to feel powerful when I'm playing an action or action/adventure game. This is a virtual fantasy, after all, and I want to do things I'd never be able to do in real life. I want to face down twenty enemies and come away nearly unscathed. I want to take it to the limit and not even breathe heavy. In short, I very much enjoy playing as an unstoppable bad-ass.

So what game has empowered you in the past? What's the one game that really made you feel like you could take on the world, that foes would be downright foolish to challenge you? For a while, it was God of War for me, although those games did present one with the occasional formidable challenge. It's just that Kratos was so freakin' imposing and awesome in every possible way... Now, however, I have to say I love playing the Assassin's Creed games so I can feel nigh-on invincible. If you know how to play those games correctly, dying really doesn't happen that often.

I can take you out from the shadows or I can charge in; either way, you don't have much of a chance, unless I fu** it up somehow. You won't beat me; I can only beat myself. That's the kind of protagonist I can really get behind, ya know? I can pick you off one by one, assassinating from above in the trees, hiding in haystacks, or simply taking you out and disappearing into the crowd. Or, I can rush into a fort with fifty dudes wanting to kill me and provided I do it correctly, they'll all die. And they'll die hardcore. ACIII is great because it added a ton of new and totally ridiculous kill animations, so you're almost always eliminating enemies with fantastic flourishes.

So how about you?

Jeesh, too many to count. I think that feeling sort of happens usually when I've mastered or have become quite adept in a game. Whether that be Batman, Ninja Gaiden, GoW, or a fighting game, it can happen.

I will say I'm not a big fan of games that synthetically make you feel like that without first making you learn the rules to succeed. That is, I like that games like Ninja Gaiden and the Souls series make you study and learn the system of play in order to have control over your encounters. At that point, I'm pretty convinced of how powerful my character is, and how deserving it feels to have put in the work to get myself there. Akira from VF feels a lot like that too.

I dont get the same feeling of power when I play AC as I do when I play GoW so its a no brainer for me. GoW is probably the best example of a gane that makes you feel plenty powerful, but presents some great challenges to foes who can seem even more powerful at times.

Killzone 3. When you shove your fingers into another human controlled player eyes and pop them right out of their skull, you develop a new sense of "I'm so bada$$" I remember my first time in single player, and doing the brutal melee. Nothing like it, well battlefield 3 did a good job but killzone 3's melee just cannot be topped. Its so satisfying sneaking up on a sniper and shoving your knife into them. But yeah i feel more godlike in kz3's story and MP modes.

out of game though, something that really makes you feel proud has been and always will be MK!
the game that you could always say i finished it and no one would believe you.
i still remember the first day i finished shaolin monks, and a friend was sitting next to me the whole time and said to me you do know theres a easier way.
than turned the computer on and showed me the basement where you can get a health upgrade mid fight.
sigh, you sit here for hours on end, watching me hurl the controller across the room, than once i finally finish it, then and only then do you tell me!

I scanned the title and think of the AC serie and GOW, and there you are... writing about ACIII and GOW.

If you are like me a big fan of AC, and played it so many times then you are like a god. Just walking around the city full notorious and don't give a shit about the amounts of enemies constantly attacking you.

And on the other hand, murdering all the soldiers in a fort without being noticed. The fun of lurking in the bushes and watching enemies on patrol run around in panic after discovering a trail of dead body's and everywhere they run they see nothing but corpses. They just keep running, then wen seeing you they drop to their knees begging not to kill them. Got to love ACIII.

Ultimately, it's any RPG that was made well. I hope y'all get this one too.

If I am allowed to maximize my potential at becoming God-like in terms of power and all it takes is knowledge about gameplay and attention paid to the world around you (exploration)then that's my answer.

For now though it's the likes of Final Fantasy 12, Dark Cloud, Prototype, Fallout 3.

All I can think of for now.

Peace.

Kratos for me. I always appreciate the schism between what I'm feeling and he's feeling -- when TELLY sees a giant mythical monster come on screen, he gets a little nervous about what's going to happen. KRATOS doesn't flinch, pulls out his blades of chaos, and usually screams a bloodthirsty promise right in that monster's face. I friggin' LOVE that.

The first game to do this for me was Devil May Cry. Dante is such a badass in that game. And when you play it correctly (which takes some time to condition yourself to) it is immensely satisfying to pull off all those stylized moves.

Kratos is the king of badassery though. In your face, no bullsh** bad ass.

Assassins Creed is great for giving you that empowered feeling because of two things. First: It exudes style and grace when you pull off all those fancy executions. Which is really satisfying. Secondly: it's easy... The Assassins Creed games are, by comparison, really easy. I'm not knocking them for it. On the contrary, I absolutely love it. These days, I rarely have it in me at the end of the night for the white knuckled adrenaline fest of games like DMC and GOW. But I can ALWAYS play Assassins Creed.

And how could I leave out Infamous. Do a thunder drop from the roof of a building into traffic and tell me you don't feel like a demi-god!

Gosh, tough one for me. Obviously GoW, in a hard difficulty I feel like a bad ass. But I am a special little bear in that I only feel bad ass if the game posed a significant challenge. I felt most like a bad ass in Dark Souls when I overcame some piece of crap boss that I couldnt beat, in GoW 1 playing in God difficulty and beating that Kratos Clone fight, oh and DMC3 made me feel like a bad ass all the time, not only were the moves stylish and awesome looking they were hard to pull off well. Beating the game on hard was quite an accomplishment and I felt like the biggest BA MFer.

However I would have to say I feel like the biggest bad ass when I'm playing Tribes:Ascend and I go on killing sprees against other high tier players. Zipping through the air at 250kpm and shooting someone mid air with a Disc Launcher is the most satisfying thing. Just to give you an idea Discs at projectiles so you have to lead your shot and they take time to travel. So when you get mid air kills it is just so satisfying and I feel like a boss. Doing two or three in a row and I'm laughing :)

Devil May Cry (in most of its iterations) is the one that immediately comes to mind. When I was sharp and had the rhythm of combat down, the sense of being a total badass was just amazing. It's one of the only games where I really enjoyed the highest difficulty setting.

The other game that comes to mind is Spider-Man 2. Not for the combat, which was pretty average, but the web-swinging navigation around the city was a heaping plateful of pure awesome. Why none of the subsequent Spidey games seem to be able to match that perfect balance is something of a mystery to me.

Oh... and Okami. For somewhat different reasons than the other two.

Sleeping Dogs. That's probably a strange one to pick, but for some reason that game made me feel like an unstoppable force, even when at a certain point things seemed to go south.

Other than that, Far Cry 3. It might not start off that way, in fact it actually feels just the opposite in the beginning, but over all, playing as Jason Brody makes me feel like a super human.

Oh man there's so many!

Any RPG I've ever played, I always farm for xp in RPg's so when I get to a creature that's supposed to be hard and I obliterate it, I feel a little invincible..

Infamous, having the choice to subdue or leech someone always gives you a bit of a god like complex.

I remember the last part of Resistance 2 (spoiler) when Hale gets the "God Hands" I had such a blast in that, or the tank levels in Resistance:FOM...but I think one of the first games I ever played where I got the feeling that nothing could touch me would be the original Tenchu's. There was just something bad-ass about stealth killing an enemy and getting the special cut scenes, I really wish they would redo that series...

Or the original one. Nanoaugmentation, a nano-sword and an array of awesome abilites to choose from.

You feel vastly superior in both, except whencompared with the bosses, but that just makes it more badass when you manage to kill them (or choose not to in the first one). Both wear shades and a trenchcoat, too.
