Journey Leads 2013 D.I.C.E. Awards With 11 Nominations

Journey has already earned quite a few significant awards, but there are more to come.

The nominees for the 2013 D.I.C.E. Awards have been announced and thatgamecompany's stellar production has earned 11 total nominations, including one for overall Game of the Year.

Journey was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, Outstanding Innovation in Gaming, Downloadable Game of the Year, Casual Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Gameplay Engineering, Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay, Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Story. Yeah, that's quite the list.

As for the other Game of the Year nominees, there's Gearbox Software's Borderlands 2, Ubisoft's Far Cry 3, Telltale's The Walking Dead, and 2K Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Dishonored really needed to be in there in our estimation but hey, it's still a darn good assembly of titles. All in all, behind Journey's 11, the top nomination-getters were The Walking Dead (8), Far Cry 3 (7), Halo 4 (6), Borderlands 2 (5), and Dishonored (5).

The D.I.C.E. Awards will be held on Thursday, February 7 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Nerdist.com founder and comedian Chris Hardwick will host the event.

It's gonna be sad to lose Thatgamecompany as a PS exclusive dev.

I don't mind this as much. It's not like they've done anything that has necessarily required the PS3's more powerful architecture. Provided they don't get locked into a regime where someone tries to dictate development to them, their innovative and highly creative ideas can flourish on multiple platforms.

Totally agree with Ben. This is one company that I believe can come up with fantastic concepts across several platforms. And they deserve the sales. I really, really wish them all the best.

I agree with all that as well but it's still a shame to lose 'em, same with Insomniac.

It was definitely a shame to lose Insomniac. I honestly don't believe they would've ever tried a project like Fuse if they weren't also trying to cater to the Xbox 360 audience.
