Dead Space 3 Will Offer In-Game Material Via Microtransactions

Microtransactions have become quite a popular tactic this generation, so don't be too surprised to see them in the new Dead Space.

According to what associate producer Yara Khoury told Eurogamer, Dead Space 3 will be the first installment in the critically acclaimed franchise to feature microtransactions.

Players will use actual money to purchase various resources and scrap parts, and that of course is entirely optional. The interesting part is that Khoury said scavenger bots might also provide you with currency that you "can use on the marketplace," so you don't have to dip into your actual wallet. We don't know how much each microtransaction will cost but apparently, there will be multiple bundle options available so you'll have come choices.

If you're wondering, though, you can't become super powerful right off the bat by forking over some extra bucks. Khoury explains that high-level parts are only available later in the game, whether you choose to buy them or not. The only difference is if you beat the game and start a New Game+, which makes perfect sense. Me, I'm sort of indifferent about the microtransaction thing, but only because I'd never do it in a million years.

On one hand im fine with it as I see this as a way to make your character better faster, optionally, of course. I know in the article he said you couldnt do it right away, but ive always seen it as stuff being more readily available by purchasing it rather than searching for it when it does become available in game.
Personally I just want to play the game, and achieve stuff by playing not purchasing.

On the other hand, because this is getting more popular and people actually do excercise this option I feel it has the potential to become aa way for developers to nickel and dime us on more stuff. .

Please don't make console games like iphone games, there's a reason us gamers choose to play on consoles over mobile devices.

As long as I am not forced to buy resources I don't care. Typical EA and it's only the gamer who supports this option that is at fault. Stop giving money to micro transactions and EA and other devs will stop putting MT in their games.

DLC, microtransactions... Whats next? Charging us for secret bosses? Making us pay to use vibrations in the controller? Pay for hard mode? Man... To think we've had it cheap up until now. Its only going to get worse from here.

No guys don't get mad! This is in here for the gamers *rolls eyes* Its not here for the sole purpose of preying on human psychology and impulse buying. Nope its here to "enrich" the users experience, yeah thats it. The game would certainly be worse without this feature.

If people still can't see the scummy corporate nature of big publishers like EA and Activision after seeing something like this I don't know what will convince people that the whole DLC, micro DLC, microtransaction model is nothing more than a money grubby cash grab.

It in NO way serves the gamer not one bit.

UGH! Where's the challenge if/when you MT it all?????

Yeah I can see the future of it all right now....

EA: Calling all Twitchers, quick, look over here, right now....

Our MT is your perfect chance to dumb-down any of the true enjoyment of actually having to really earn your way through to the top of the game.

Just have all your dollars ready & speed-dial us without delay at "1-800-suckered".

BTW, the first 3 million subscribers who spend $299.99 will receive our free coveted in-game badge "I GAVE, GAVE, & GAVE AGAIN" as an added bonus.

Just pay a nominal one-time (per transaction) in-game shipping charge of $19.95, plus municipal, state, federal, & other assorted galaxy tax fees, triple-compounded by each micro-second, as lawfully provided under the articles, rules, & bylaws, and other associated whims, of the United Astral Time-Frame Consortium's handbook)

It's just our little way here at EA of saying..er..um..ah...
...Thanks!

I hate to say it, but this new DS is really starting to become less and less interesting to me. The first two - awesome! I don't like the "push" towards co-op either, even if you CAN play the game solo. It sounds like you'll be missing out on some of the experience - and not one I wanted.

One of the things I loved about the first two was the sense of isolation from just immersing yourself in the gameplay. I was going to give this a shot, but now, with the MTs too - I think I'll wait two years for the $29.99 GOTY version, if at all.

I think I'll just let this one slide, if only for the fact that it is entirely optional and does not take away from the experience for those who choose not to participate in it.

However.... I do see this as being the start of something very ugly for the industry.

Folks, I am worried.

People, I beg of you. Do not buy dead space 3 no matter what. Don't even buy it used!!! Let them know this isn't acceptable. We already payed full price, we already pay for the dlc, and now you want to add micro transactions? You know what I would even say this would be okay if they were selling this at a net loss. Something similar how sony sold the ps3, but this isn't the case.

Once again, please people I beg of you don't buy this at all!

edit: if your going to micro then give the game for free

Well, at least it's optional and only about resources and scrap parts and maybe EA had an idea that there are people dumb enough to MT resources before playing the game for the first time. EA is greedy but not like Square Enix greed. Square Enix put a main integral part of the story in XIII-2 as DLC (Requiem of The Goddess), that's greed to the highest level.

I will play Dead Space 3 just like the way I did in the previous games, Plasma Cutter all the way. Haha.
