New GTAV Details Include Character Switching And Hijacking
The more information we can find for Grand Theft Auto V, the happier we all are.
Dutch site GameKings got a chance to speak with Rockstar boss Dan Houser and it didn't take long for hardcore franchise followers to translate those details into English (as summarized at Gameranx).
First up, Houser mentions the part of a gameplay demo where we see Michael sitting by the pool and confirms that that isn't a cut-scene. Furthermore, the mission shown off to the press was also real gameplay and not a scripted sequence, so that's kinda impressive right off the bat. The only downside is that the public hasn't seen any of this footage, so they'll have no idea what we're talking about...bummer, that.
But anyway, we learn that each character "approaches a mission through different means," so we'll get to see that mission via a variety of perspectives. Here's more about how we'll be switching back and forth between the main characters:
"The game's switching mechanism gives players an indicator for each and every protagonist on the zoomed out map, which you can switch between. It switches between the game's three protagonists, Michael, Franklin and Trevor. The system is unscripted, so you'll be able to switch to these characters throughout the game. This differs from Heavy Rain's linear narrative, which forces players into the roles of the different protagonists throughout the story."
And of course, heists and hijacking will return (wouldn't be GTA if they didn't), and there will be armored trucks containing cash that we can jack for extra funds. By all rights, the game should absolutely rule...we just need an official, solidified launch date. Hurry up, Rockstar!
