Ubisoft: Prince Of Persia Is On Hiatus

Prince of Persia is one of the most acclaimed and popular franchises out there, and it's unfortunate to hear that we won't be seeing a new entry any time soon.

But don't give up hope. As Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat told IGN, the PoP series has been "paused" while the company takes a break to come up with new ideas. However, whenever a team is willing to come up with that idea, the franchise will likely return.

Said Mallat:

"Brand management is a tricky thing. It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it."

Mallat added that Prince of Persia remains "part of Ubisoft's portfolio" and that they frequently give franchises "time to breathe and time to grow." Therefore, we'd like to assume that PoP might make a triumphant return in the next generation, which is an encouraging thought. Don't forget that this generation, a Prince of Persia reboot did the series proud. Man, I loved that game. Anybody remember it well?

The PoP reboot was awesome. I liked the twist on the gameplay and free-roam feel. It was good for that type of game where you can take advantage of the Princes abilities much like in the AC series. The most recent PoP was a good time too. In fact one of my favorite parts in any game was the ending battle where - even though it was pre-determined - the city was coming down and through a sand storm you had to jump from falling building to falling building. Epic scene.

Anyways ill miss it for awhile, I love the PoP games. I even enjoyed the movie!

fine by me, as long as on pause does not mean you will never see it again!
id love to see maybe a update version of the fantasy reboot as launch titles for next gen systems.
hey new tech always struggles with software both quantity and quality wise, not to mention unique wise.
so what better game than this to help it along?
yea its been out for several years, but this would be the perfect game just as a showcase of what the systems can do!
yea id rather see a sequel to it or something, but that would take up allot of time and to be honest im happy to see PoP on pause so we can see a new IP!
this project osiris, which looks allot like PoP, has me really intrigued!

when PoP does come back though, i want a return to PoP the warrior within, with the possessed arm of the two thrones.
warrior within is BY FAR THE best PoP game!
it was so dark and twisted, had such a great combat system!
2 thrones added the really funny corrupt personality, and the infected arm abilities were really cool so id be nice to see those incorporated into the warrior within style.
that would make the perfect PoP game!

You know, I wasn't impressed by the reboot. It didn't feel like Prince of Persia. I know that I'm supposed to appreciate freshness, but it felt a bit off. So, I'm hoping for a return to something like Warrior Within, which was my favorite in the whole series. The combat system was just perfect.

Warrior within was my least favorite in the series. The combat was good though, I agree with that.
