EA Puts Medal Of Honor On Hold

Medal of Honor is a great franchise but after last year's less-than-impressive Warfighter, publisher Electronic Arts has opted to take the series "out of rotation." Too bad.

Sales expectations were not met with the FPS follow-up that should've been a pretty huge blockbuster, and it's hard to say what this means for developer Danger Close games. Right now, according to what an EA rep told GameSpot, the studio has no announced projects. Here's part of EA's statement on the matter:

"We haven’t announced a new project for the Medal of Honor development team, although there are other projects in development in Los Angeles and throughout our other EA studios. Medal of Honor is a great franchise with a storied past. We recognize and appreciate the value of the franchise. We’re going to give Medal of Honor a rest while we plan its return. We haven’t made any decision on how or when it will return."

Medal of Honor is one of those franchises that has been up and down over the past couple of generations and there's no knowing when it will return. I do, however, have fond memories of the original MoH on PlayStation and the fantastic Medal of Honor: Frontline for the PS2.

Here's a tip: don't put it head-to-head with CoD. Let it carve out it's own piece of the genre at some other time of year.

Damn. Thats upsetting. Was really looking forward to the next installment after Warfighter. I love the stories in these games, which are more emotional than yourtypical FPS even going back to Frontline.

Feel sorry for Danger Close, they obviously have talent, but I always felt that they just couldn't quite do for the series what it really needed.

Its obvious that EA rushed these games out. The amount of bugs that that day one patch solved was immense. I really think EA should learn a better strategy then to rush games out every two years. I mean look how this game suffered because of it.

Danger Close is talented and you can see what they were trying to do with both MoH games. But sadly they were both rushed and went up against CoD.

It was a mistake to try to compete with CoD. Even -IF- it's better... They would have been better to be their own identity at another time of year. People get bored of Cod by the end of Spring.

I thought big publishers like EA would have top notch quality control testers, or sensible marketing team. The fact that the game was as buggy as it was to a lot of the copies, AND trying to go head to head with a proven successful franchise that is CoD, they asked for it.

Good.

A sign of the times that military FPS' are slowly burning out. Very slowly though.

I'm sure Medal of Honor was good, but good doesn't cut it anymore sadly. You have to be the best to survive this industry.

Haven't even finished Battlefield 3 yet. :P

OH FOR F*CKS SAKE EA!!!!!!!!!!
warfighter flopped because 1 you tried to turn it into a crappy COD wannabee, and 2 it was buggy as hell!
take the series back to how it was in the 2010 reboot, the "wait dont shoot lets see if they pass", and it would sell a sh*t ton better than warfighter did!

I don't mind, it's was the same as COD but COD is better its no use just copying other games you have to make them better. This shows that the consumer is fully aware of a games quality (even the average consumer) and won't buy crap
