God Of War: Ascension vs. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
It's an interesting comparison, don't you think? Which will be the better action game in the first quarter of 2013?
Platinum's Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance hits in February while God of War: Ascension drops in March, and action aficionados everywhere are likely intrigued by both. But in your estimation, which will end up being the superior hackin' experience?
Perhaps it's safe to assume the following: Ascension will have better overall polish and production values, as that's precisely what the franchise is known for. On the flip side, Revengeance might appeal more to the hardcore fighting fanatics, as it might be more complex and feature a stiffer learning curve. After all, Platinum was responsible for one of this generation's deepest, most intricate and most demanding combat mechanics, which was found in Bayonetta.
But this all depends on your definition of "best action game," right? For some, it's more about accessibility and those super high production values, while others place all their eggs in the complexity basket; i.e., "I want to spend my life learning these combos and only then will I get the requisite satisfaction." Then again, what about story? It usually isn't the biggest factor in such a genre but it can certainly have a positive or negative impact on the overall quality of a game. Me, I'd give the edge to Ascension just because I've never been all that impressed with any of Platinum's narratives. But Ascension might feel a tad empty, too.
So what do you say?

I feel like Ascencion will take the title of "best action game" between this duel of dual action adventures

Temjin's correct. It may not be worse port out there but it's the worst one I have ever seen. Fallout 3 is pretty bad in certain areas(especially the DLC) but at least you can avoid those ares if you want. You can't do that in Bayonetta. I'm sorry to say the 360 version is light years ahead of the PS3 version. I doubt it can be patched out. Sega just did a straight 360 to PS3 port which rarely turns out well.
If you really want to play it just rent it. Don't support lazy devolpers. Sega did a lot of damage to the PS3's reputation with that nasty port. :(

I am going to buy GOW too Zettai. I had a ton of fun playing Mass Effect 3's multiplayer with you. I look forward to putting countless hours into the GOW multiplayer with you. :)
Okay, back to MGS. One thing that impressed me was how buttery smooth the gameplay is. The game looks great and is running 60 FPS. The graphics look crisp and detailed. It looks like Platinum Games knows what they are doing on the PS3.
Btw. I absolutely loved Vanquish. It's a very underated game. It's true that it's a short gane but it's still great. I would love to see a sequel to Vanquish. They should add multiplayer to it next time.

Seriously, for someone coming late to the party. I can think about nothing more than playing GoWII right now. Actually playing Ni No Kuni and GoWII right now. Both games are so different it allows me to pull it off and thoroughly enjoy both. Ascension looks fantastic! Kratos is so brutal, what a great character!
On a side note, have any of you seen the new Killzone Mercenary trailer!??!!!!! It's unbelievable! This is going to be that Vita game that brings the Vita some respect!

On topic, I honestly don't care for either, although I prefer god of war games for their production values and gameplay. I'm personally looking forward to more info on MGS Ground Zeroes.

I'm sure GOW:A gonna be a better game but I don't care much about it, the beta was fun for while and got boring fast well I'm not much into MP and that is fine because the past GOW games didn't have it, they should of learned from Uncharted they incorporated MP but they didn't forgot to hype the campaign!

However, we are only two weeks away from Crysis 3! Woohoo - now THAT is one title I am super psyched for!

I loved the blurry feel of Crysis 2 - I think it looks great, adds depth to the picture. I really don't get why that received so much criticism, and I for one am glad they kept it.
In Crysis 2 the graphics in the single player were notably better than mp (at least the PS3 version) - something that makes sense too.
But I'm real torn this time, if I will get Crysis 3 for PC or PS3. I got buddies on both platforms that are saying they'll get the game, so it ends up being a question of who I most want to play with. Hate it when that happens!
... And then there's BioShock and GTA coming up, and between these three titles I got a life to cater to. So no GoW or MGR for me.

Platinum games may have been very light on story in the past (I didn't even bother listening to Vanquish) but Bayonetta was actually just plain fun regardless of the weird (but still fun) story. I'm interested to see what platinum will do with revengence. With God of war, I already pretty much know exactly what to expect, especially after playing the beta. But that isn't at all a bad thing

My time and money is currently on my back catalogue while waiting for Bioshock Infinite and GTA V.
Trying to juggle 2 jobs and time with friends and family is costing me a lot of time. I'm only 5 hours into Assassin's Creed 3 and I've been playing it for the last 3 weeks!!!
DAMN YOU STEAM SALE!!!
My back catalogue is huge thanks to Valve's insanely cheap games. Thank you Gabe Newell for giving me more money but no time. :P

But which is better? Not sure, I don't think I could choose either one of them over the other one. I like my Greek Mythology and futuristic technology, and science fiction and what have you.
That is a very tough call imo, so I will stand neutral on this.

there 2 such totally different games!
its like saying whats better, zelda or darksiders?
yea they may be in the same genre, and have the same RPG dungeon crawler feel, but besides that there totally different!
GOW and rising even more so, ones a hack and slash ripper set on big set pieces, and massive boss battles!
the other is much more about stealth, precision, and super fast paced combat!
they may be in the same genre, but thats where the similarities end.

The MG rising demo makes me feel like its holding my hand and saying "Its ok! Here, push this button ok good! Now do this!" I don't like games treating me like im a 5 year old haha Plus, what the hell happened to him spending time with his family? It kind of upsets me. He finally gets his son and wife back and BAM he's right back out there.

I didn't like that the square button is used as both the primary attack button, AND the parry button (while moving the left analog stick forward at the same time).
I could never get the parry to work consistently even when getting the timing just right, so I had no choice but to constantly take damage from enemies, and for me it just took away a lot of the fun of controlling a supposedly badass, nigh invincible cyborg killing machine.
I also didn't care for the miniboss at the end with the lame unblockable attack sequences.
So I don't sound completely neagtive about the demo, I though the Blade Mode was a really cool and well done feature. Chopping up a watermelon (or anything else not nailed down) into 500+ teeny tiny pieces was sweet.
