Analyst: GTAV Cost $137 Million But Will Sell 18 Million
Okay, that's pricey.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sterne Agee industry analyst Arvind Bhatia anticipates the cost of making Grand Theft Auto V to be around $137 million. But he anticipates the game will sell 18 million, which would generate $230 million in operating profit.
Bhatia explained his "hypothetical profitability model" for GTAV, which was based on that $137.5 million budget and a team of 250 people working on the project for five years. But even with adding projected marketing costs between $69 million and $109.3 million, Bhatia still sees "huge returns" for publisher Take-Two Interactive. Even if the game "only" managed to sell 15 million copies, that would still result in an operating profit of $193.6 million for the fiscal year. If it sold 25 million copies, it would result in a whopping $390.8 million profit.
For the time being, Bhatia thinks the hotly anticipated blockbuster will shift 18 million units in Take-Two's fiscal year, which would put it second only to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in terms of sales this generation. ...well, come on. Does anyone really think GTAV won't rake in a ton of cash?

I think R* probably thinks the heat will hopefully die down a bit by the time of their new later launch date.

the costs for GTAIV were estimated at 80M if i remember right, and you have to remember that was including building the RAGE engine which they have used throughout the whole generation!
IV was also their first MP title so they had to invest in new employees with network experience, and also network code and server costs.
V does not have half the costs IV did!
yea it has a larger development team working on it, but thats really the only thing costing more tha 4 so i think that number is grossly exaggerated!
unless it is being created for next gen systems as well, than your basically creating 2 games, and again they would have to do work on the RAGE engine for enhancements to next gen tech so in that case it may not be so ludicrous.
