BioWare: Stop Calling The Next ME Entry "Mass Effect 4"

Okay everyone, stop referring to the new Mass Effect as "Mass Effect 4." It's bugging BioWare.

We know the latest ME installment is brewing, but as BioWare community developer Chris Priestly recently stated in the company's forums (as cited at Eurogamer), calling this project "Mass Effect 4" does the new title a "disservice."

He reminded everyone that Commander Shepard's story is over and the trilogy is complete. Hence, the next game will be something entirely new:

"To call the next game Mass Effect 4 or ME4 is doing it a disservice and seems to cause a lot of confusion here.

We have already said that the Commander Shepard trilogy is over and that the next game will not feature him/her. I see people saying 'well, they'll have to pick a canon ending.' No, because the game does not have to come after. Or before. Or off to the side. Or with characters you know. Or yaddayaddayadda. Wherever, whenever, whoever, etc will all be revealed years down the road when we actually start talking about it."

Priestly added that fans should try to anticipate "what happens next in the Mass Effect universe; so far, there have been no official details released. So feel free to speculate to your heart's content...just don't get the name wrong. Call it...um..."Mass Effect: The Return," or something.

so if they call it mass effect, wouldn't that confuse people even more? "Hey man you hear about that new game mass effect?" replies "There's 3 of them..." I do wonder what it will be like though. Maybe "Open galaxy" Ha, that just sounds cool.

It's Mass Effect 4 until they give us an official title. Final Fantasy 4 didn't have anything to do with the story or characters of Final Fantasy 3.

I don't think having a "4" in the title confuses people. There have been countless games in other franchises that have added a new number in the title whenever a new one comes out. A lot of those aren't sequels in the traditional sense either. Mega Man, Final Fantasy, and Mario Brothers just to name a few examples. If the game is memorable enough, people will know what you're talking about when it's mentioned, whether there's a number in the name, or not.

Fine Bioware I'll call it Mass Effect The Unknown!

Maybe they don't want people to refer to it as 4 since there was a huge backlash.

Quoting, "will all be revealed years down the road"
- "Years"? YEARS - in plural? Are we *that* far away from a new Mass Effect adventure?

I share your pain...I'm still working my way through the ME trilogy but I'm almost done and I'm still craving more. Such an amazing series.

Yet they will still call it Mass Effect? Use another name instead. People would still buy the game, right?

ok bioware will make a deal.
we will stop calling ME4, ME4, if you will forget ME3 ever happened, and make the next mass effect the proper ending to the trilogy!
deal?
when i spend 10s of hundreds of hours creating a legacy, i kinda want to feel like i had a impact and effect on it!
not congratulations you did this so you get cherry soda, instead of cola.
not exactly enough of a difference!
