Journey Soundtrack Bested By The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Well, it's still one hell of an accomplishment, and a bright spot for the industry during the dark days of continuous attacks in the wake of the Newtown shooting tragedy.

We're sure most of you know already, but we wanted to post this as a salute to the composer, Austin Wintory. Wintory's original music heard in Thatgamecompany's award-winning Journey was nominated for the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media Grammy; it was the first time a full video game score received a Grammy nomination.

But Wintory couldn't secure the win, as Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the Grammy in that category for their work in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Wintory congratulated Reznor and Ross on the victory via Twitter, and reminded us that Journey has become something that has gone above and beyond expectations:

"Obviously I didn't work on #JourneyPS3 hoping to win a Grammy. The entire point was the game itself and that's gone beyond my wildest dreams."

Journey took home plenty of awards, winning everything from Best Soundtrack to Best PS3 Game to outright Game of the Year. And trust us when we say that Wintory's score plays a very big role in that very special interactive experience. Good luck in the future, Austin!

Even speaking as a big fan of Trent Reznor's work, I was disappointed that Journey lost the category. The soundtrack really helped make the game special. Still, even just being acknowledged by the industry is a huge accomplishment. Excellent work, Austin!
