Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Has Exclusive PS3 Content

The rumors were true and once again, PlayStation 3 owners should be quite satisfied.

And that's because in the process of confirming Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft also revealed that the PS3 version will receive one hour of exclusive content.

This really shouldn't surprise anyone, though, because Ubisoft has been giving Sony followers this kind of preferential treatment for a while. Last year's ACIII delivered four PS3-exclusive missions centering on Benedict Arnold, for example. Beyond the extra content for Sony's platform, though, we don't have much in the way of details. All we have is the box art (seen through the link) and the rumor that the protagonist's name is Edward Kenway, the grandfather of ACIII's main character, Connor. And yes, pirates do seem to be involved so perhaps we should expect more naval battles.

This will likely drop for the holiday season.

While I may be on the winning team, I still hate it when this happens. There is no way to justify limiting content on separate consoles.

I agree but it's a reality of the industry so I say, if the competition gets it, we should get it, too.

Activision has always given Microsoft preferential treatment for the biggest games in the world (Call of Duty), so I won't complain about getting a little extra stuff on the PS3 for Assassin's Creed. :)

There are exceptions. For example when Mortal Kombat had exclusive content and that content was the exclusive character Kratos.

I hope this comes and is optimized for the PS4. I'm actually excited about the high seas!! :) That was my favorite part of ACIII.

I don't like the direction AC is taking. How do you feel as a AC fan, Ben?

I've been a huge fan of the series, and own every game in the franchise since AC1. (even have Assassin's Creed pajama bottoms)
As of now, I honestly don't believe yearly releases of an Assassin's Creed game can truly harm the series, just as long as they continue to provide a quality experience with a fresh story and hours upon hours of entertainment.

If they, however, end up turning this into a multiplayer focused low-quality series, in the likes of Call Of Duty, then I'm leaving Assassin's Creed behind.

Until that happens though, I'll wear the hood with pride and honor.

Well, the quality hasn't seemed to have suffered so far. Ubi do aparently have multiple teams working on AC games, just like the whole Treyarch and IW tag-team for COD.

I just really think it's getting a bit much. There has been an AC game released every single year since the PS3 was released, EXCEPT 2008.

I DEFINTELY don't think this game should be called AC4 either. They had better be giving us a damn good experience. I expect it will show us how Haythem got turned into a Templar, and give us more information behind the council of templars that was shown at the start of AC3, considering these guys are responsible for the Templars being in America in the first place, it would be a great piece of info.

I'm more thinking in regards of theme/content, not quality. Put a large enough crew on the task, and the games will stay at the same level of quality, technically.

But how do you fans feel about it now going for a pirate theme?

I've never been a huge fan of the games, but I've always loved the historical feeling and exotic atmosphere of the first games. The elegance of the games were impressive.

I was a bit disappointed when they went to american soil with AC3, and now even more when they seem to lose their historical relevance completely. I mean, pirates as we know them today are pure fantasy. In reality they were just bandits on the sea, nothing really exotic about them, and definitely nothing elegant.

But that's how I feel. I wonder how the fans are thinking. Is it basically the parkour-element you are fans of anyway, the setting isn't that important? Or, do you find this setting to be of interest?

I stopped after playing AC2 Revelations. I may someday look at AC3 but the only thing that seems impressive to me is the visuals... and thats about it right now. And to be honest bored with the direction its going or has gone. All the best to them and the fans anyway.

And I have to admit, knowing they had a ship battle game component to AC3... I guessed they might go to pirates in the caribbean or privateers. Yep, Ubisoft has people of different cultures and beliefs on their team... but they do not seem to want to broaden in world history in their games.

Regardless, I hope its what most would like to play and Ubi has another hit so they can keep on making games. Best to them and the players. I'll look elsewhere in the mean time.

Keep on Playing!

Better than to have these AC games than COD I'd say.

Assassins Creed 3 was the last one I buy on Day 1. I'm tired of this exclusive content, make one every year crap. This is the PS3's Call of Duty.

Pirates seriously...Doesnt feel like it will be much different then part 3 which already has done the whole naval ship battles. I was really hoping they would habe made this installment more interesting...A samurai/ninja theme would have worked so much better! Whole new scenary and an endless orportunity of weapons. Sigh.. :(

ubisoft, please, for the love of GOD, give AC a break and give us a sequel to the PoP fantasy reboot!
give AC a break, then that way when you finally go back to it this pirate BS will be out of your head.
come on, ive already have all of my favorite new IPs destroyed this gen, cant i just have this one!?

Pirates? Expecting the next Assassin's Creed to feature ninjas, and the one after that, zombies.
