Battlefield 4 Announced, Campaign Will Use Multiplayer Elements

The new Battlefield entry has been officially revealed, but with no mention of a next-generation version. At least, not yet.

EA has confirmed that Battlefield 4 will launch this fall and at this point, the game's pre-order page only lists PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. On the plus side, they released no less than 17 minutes of debut gameplay; check it out below.

But even if the new title sticks with the current generation, it will be powered by a new iteration of the advanced Frostbite Engine. Battlefield 4 will utilize Frostbite 3, which is said to "set a new standard for interactive entertainment in 2013." It's also interesting to note that some of the multiplayer elements will somehow be implemented into the single-player campaign. The campaign will also track a player's progress, which lets gamers compete head-to-head, and we'll be issuing squad commands at certain points, too.

Just as a side note here, but does that sound suspiciously like an "always-connected" explanation? It probably isn't, but still... Anyway, the pre-order incentive is simple: If you pre-purchase Battlefield 4, you will receive a free upgrade to the "premium expansion." We don't know yet what is included with that upgrade but hey, free is good. More information to follow.

Them graphics look killer. I think I might consider getting this for the PC.

I really like the style and presentation of BF3 and this.

Really gritty while being so pretty at the same time.

The graphics are obviously the main feature here and they are insanely good. That gameplay is on a PC, not sure how well PS3 and 360 can cope.

On the topic of next gen, they will release it for PS4. It is EA, easy money. However, they might want to keep PS3 and 360 selling for a little longer....

'yawn'
The trailer's game play was so boring. I really hope the next gen doesn't feel like this-gen. That is, where military shooters gobble up so much of this market's AAA success.

Of course the graphics look great and the dramatic moments near the end of the 17min clip were fun. But really, I'd rather just watch than play.

Yawn? Really? I am not a big fan of FPS and have only dabbled in a few: Medal Of Honor and recently Bioshock Infinite. Now that i know i will be getting a less then impressive game in "The Last Of Us", i am truly excited for this one, to the point of giddy. There is no place to yawn in this trailer, the opening scene grabs you like you are a second away from getting you're throat slit. The graphics, the interactions between the soldiers, the scale, the fluidity, the destruction, the lighting, the background, and most importantly the best song placement i have ever seen in a game. Sure is it over the top, yes; blame COD for that. If you can't beat them - join them. If this fails to beat COD in sales, then i ashamed of my gaming community. Unless of course Activision pulls a rabbit out of their hat and actually innovates for the first time in i don't know how long..... 6 years? These are the type of FPS games we should all want and expect.

Thank you for caring so much Real Deal about what I think =) ....and yes, really, real deal. The military themed linear FPS type has really run it's course on me over this last gen. I'm tired of the political stories, familiar looking art assets: dusty urban and suburb, or office buildings. These types have had a pretty heavy presence amongst core gamers this gen. I'm sure if we added up the marketing dollars and man hours this past gen, these types would drawf all others 2 to 1.
It's just one typical experience that I'd rather watch for it's dramatics instead of it's play.

I tend to much prefer the non-linear FPS games. Killzone is an exception because the gun play and enemy AI is good. Along with the various maneuvers you can preform on the field. Plus, the added sci-fi twist is a plus for me. Other than that, give me Far Cry, Rage, or Crysis (probably that Bioshock game too) before this.
This is strictly single player speaking. I have no argument over the multi-play stuff.

Nas?
THIS BF3.5 TRAYLER SUUUUUCKZZZZ!!!!! BF gots nothing on CoD!!

Hope the next title will be another Bad Company game, BF3 is best suited for PC and BF4 looks also.

"Free" expansion my ass. You're putting down money to pre-order and get the expansion pack, so it most certainly isn't free.

Well when you consider that $5 (Gamestop) goes toward the full price and how after release they'll most likely charge for it I'd say it's free.
