Insomniac Says "No" To Online Pass And Microtransactions For Fuse

Both the online pass and microtransactions have become commonplace this generation, but Insomniac Games wants no part of either.

The developer has revealed that their upcoming team-based third-person shooter, Fuse, will not have an online pass nor will it include microtransactions. They do urge you to buy the game new, though, as the lack of microtransactions means there's no other source of income for the designers. Help out the old-fashioned way!

The online pass was adopted by several major publishers over the past few years (including Sony) and it was created to combat the lucrative used game market. Used games don't bring in any profit for the developers or publishers; only the retailer makes out, and publishers were finally sick of that. As for microtransactions, there's plenty of evidence to support the idea that gamers like them just fine, while on the other hand, lots of consumers absolutely abhor the idea.

But you needn't worry about any of that when Fuse hits on May 28.

Good! I have a little more faith in them now. Though I still need to see some review before getting it.

It won't really matter since nobody is going to buy it anyway.

Adopting consumer friendly policies? That's Crazy!

I'm paranoid enough to believe that EA is purposely letting Insomniac do this, just so that they can blame the poor sales of this utterly generic, uninteresting shooter on people really "enjoying" microtransactions and Online Passes, and wanting to see them in games.

Keep those focus-tested shooters coming, EA. We'll keep not buying them. Which beloved developer is next onto the bonfire?

EA doesn't own Insomniac; they're just the publisher.

EA didn't own Oddworld Inhabitants, either, but they managed to bury the company, all the same.

if insomniac is so against them, makes you wonder why they let $ony put one in resistance 3?
shame, maybe that could of helped the game sell better and save the franchise from its death!
sad, one of the best most underestimated franchises this generation!
oh well, maybe bend studio can do a ps4 revival, after all the psp resistance retribution they did was actually fantastic!

as for fuse, looks like your typical insomniac game.
very creative, cool quirky weapons, looks great!
just a shame about the release date, allot of big games are coming around then so i can see this getting lost in the shadows.
EA are stupid, they should of left this as a late april release!

Hm, I've not heard anything about this game but it sounds like a ploy to sell the game on goodwill alone. "Supporting the developers who defy anti-consumer policies".

I am afraid I am still not convinced. Fuse I believe will be a decent game, like the Resistance games, but I am still not sure from what I have seen that it brings something to the table that makes me want to pick it up that is not already been done.

Mind you since the game is coming out on multiplatforms it might succeed or at least break even. Will have to wait to see what the critics say and if more of the in game content/story is revealed to make it compelling to buy.

Regardless, I wish them luck on this new game.

Keep Playing!

It really is a shame than Insomniac signed a deal with the devil, er I mean EA. Insomniac is a great game making company.

Did no one actually play the resistance series?!? I can't understand why no one has faith in insomniac. Resistance was consistently good all the way through. I for one am excited about this game. It looks like a fresh idea that looks fun as hell!!! How could anyone call it a generic shooter when they haven't even played it yet. If it is, it is, but how do you pass judgement without any real information or experience with it. People's negativity just blows me away sometimes.

I'm sure it will be a fine game because Insomniac is a very good developer, it's just 5 years too late to be relevant.
