Resident Evil: Revelations Dev Diary Talks Franchise Heritage

Okay, so survival/horror isn't what it once was, and it may never be again.

So unfortunately, if you're itching for old-school horror goodness, you kinda have to go old-school. Or, you can opt for Resident Evil: Revelations.

What was originally a 3DS exclusive is receiving quite the update, and it'll launch on May 21 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. The new high-definition version will feature a host of updates and enhancements, including the ability to select your favorite control scheme (Classic or Shooter), reduced load times, increased weapon customization, and more save spots. And it definitely is survival/horror, especially because the game was inspired by the very first Resident Evil titles.

In a new developer diary, Capcom talks about how they wanted to embrace many of the elements found in the original RE games, and that's always good to hear. In short, this is a very encouraging behind-the-scenes video for horror aficionados.

No duo, its about going back to the old school feel and scary atmosphere while using the new, more fluid controls. The old tank controls in RE1 were so bad that they would be unplayable now. The "tank" controls from RE4 I didn't mind at all, though people these days won't let it be where you have to stop to use weapons, so it is understandable to give it an "Uncharted" like control feel..

lol I can pick up re2 on ps1 and play it just fine even right now. tank controls arent bad... just that gamers this gen are entitled and anything that isnt already familiar to them that they might have to take a whole 30-60 secs to get used to/adjust to it automatically "bad" to them

Exactly why this warrants a purchase.

Yeah I still have RE1 and RE2, and yes, the younger crowd today does not tolerate any hint of unfamiliarity unfortunately, but the modern controls (at the RE4 level at least) make it more enjoyable (as long as the horror atmosphere is there of course)...

it will be the same again, once this outsells RE6 and rubs crapcoms nose in it!
then we can finally bring out the wooden spoons and pans and bang it into their thick skulls!!!!!
definitely getting this, just concerned on how "HD" the update really is.
one thing i hate about HD updates, 99% of the time they look almost identical to their non HD variants!
the ps2 HD updates for instance, most of them look almost the same as what they do if you were running them on a BC ps3!
whats the point of updating them to run at a higher resolution, if all the assets and textures are left untouched?
give this a true HD remake, ie make it look like what RE6 does, and watch it fly off the shelves!!!!!!!!
