Former Square Enix CEO Wada Is Now Chairman Of The Board?

Wait, wait...how does this work, exactly? We be confoozled.

Back in late March, just before Square Enix reported their astronomically bad losses, company CEO Yoichi Wada voluntarily stepped down. At the time, those who didn't appreciate Square Enix's direction as a company had a virtual party.

Many thought Wada going bye-bye could be the start of a much-needed resurgence for the Final Fantasy publisher. But what's this...? According to Joystiq citing a NeoGAF poster, Wada has been named Chairman of the Board. Square Enix's Japanese site apparently noted the change just recently. Is that not a promotion? As Joystiq said, "if the CEO is the captain of the ship, the Chairman of the Board is the admiral of the fleet." How did this happen?

Well, no matter. Nobody really had any hope for a return to glory, now did they? I sure didn't.

I definitely had a small glimmer of hope before this.

Stink the joint up and you still get promoted? I guess I need to send my resume to SE. Wow?

I've read that this is fairly customary for outgoing CEO's in Japan. That is, they are given a position on the board of directors and then quietly depart the company from there.

We'll just have to wait and see. Though, if you check this link http://www.jp.square-enix.com/company/ja/officer/ and translate the text(unless reading kanji is an option), you can see that his position is described as "to present" as opposed to "current" with other individuals in active positions. Hopefully this signifies the temporary nature of the promotion.

Btw, I should apologize for laying into you a week or so ago about FFXV. It was unwarranted, and I regret making it personal like that.

Yeah, member of the board... fine. Might have some insight to the decisions of the past that were made and what happened. I can see value in that.

But like world said... the chair?

On the flip side... things should be ok so long as there's never a tie break in any votes.... (Chair of a board makes the call in event of a tie break. Otherwise, they don't get a vote... at least... that's how most boards are supposed to work. And certainly how any board I've ever been on works.)

Apparently running a company into the ground is one way to get promoted these days.

LOL, oh man, this is just ridiculous. A guy who is largely the reason this company is in trouble has been promoted? You can't do anything but laugh at this, I respect what Square and Enix once stood for but those days are long gone and I guess aren't coming back. If it wasn't for Eidos, SE would be an even bigger joke right now.

There's this Sinatra live box set called "Vegas," and it's a collection of a few amazing performances from Vegas over the decades. The first one is in like 1961 or so, and then the last one is in the 80s toward the end of his time as a regular performer. They're all amazing, and just listening to the way he grew and changed over time was incredible. I'm sure those shows are online somewhere if you want to check 'em out!

Man, if there's one silver lining to Wada being named Chairman of the Board it's that we have an excuse to talk about the REAL Chairman of the Board.

Er, woops, I was thinking of Dean Martin. Derr, Deano was better than Sinatra in my opinion.

In all cases? Deano's Christams stuff was mostly fantastic.

Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of examples of a Dean Martin song or style being better than something Sinatra was doing. I absolutely love so much of Sinatra's catalog, though. Some of those albums -- In the Wee Small Hours, Come Fly with Me -- are so awesome they make me wish I'd been alive to live through post-war, mid-20th century America. A very special musician for me.
