Gran Turismo 6: The Last Great Reason To Keep Your PS3

There's no doubt about it: Gran Turismo is a racing icon in the world of gaming.

True racing fanatics understand and appreciate the sheer amount of depth and attention to detail in each new installment. The game has spawned the GT Academy, which brings virtual drivers onto the real racetrack, and the GT simulator has been used by professional drivers over the years. Franchise creator Kazunori Yamauchi is not only a renowned perfectionist, he's also a verified car freak, who also drives competitively.

The bottom line is that Polyphony Digital knows cars and they know racing. This is why it's imperative that you keep your PS3 long enough to play Gran Turismo 6 when it launches later this year. We know Beyond: Two Souls hits on October 8 and that's at least one good reason to hold onto the PS3, but the last big reason is undoubtedly GT6. Yes, we know Yamauchi says a PS4 version is possible, but we have no idea when that might arrive. Are you really going to pass up a chance to play what could be the greatest driving simulator ever...? Just so you can wait longer?

The game will look amazing on the PS3. We all know that. But more importantly, it should feature a host of upgrades and improvements that once again prove that GT is the definitive racing IP. Add it to your Christmas list. Keep an eye out for a finalized release date. Pre-order it now so you don't forget. Do whatever is necessary to get a peek at GT6 this year, 'cuz you'll regret it otherwise.

yes, world and I pretty much dislike that behavior myself. I tried buying TTT2 (new) at Gamestop yesterday but they had only one guy there and he had a line of dudes waiting to trade their thick stack of games in. I asked the guy in front of me, 'is that duffle bag full of used games?' he confirmed it was. I had to get to work, realizing my wait in line could be 30 minutes so I left.
I thought about how I don't like to sell the games I like. Having been playing older games over the last few months it's been clear to me that I don't necessarily enjoy the new anymore than the old.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm no longer caught up in the hype train, living as a gamer who needs to consume things on the publisher's time table. They'll spend millions to hype up and advertise their latest stuff, just hoping you'll pay down, whatever it takes, to get their newest game right away. Some guys just can't get off of that train.

oh, and I like the idea of replaying my favorite games on like an annual or bi-annual basis. I've been playing the Ninja Gaiden games that way for years. I pretty much feel that if a game isn't worth playing several times over through the years then there's no need to keep it.

I like having these run on thoughts. haha
so basically, I've accumulated a good number of favorites over the years, all games I'd like to return to. I pretty much have a set amount of time these days so I have to be careful about what I allow that's new into my concurrent game cycle. Which means I get more picky!

Haha so one day I'll just fill up with all my favorite games and won't need or play anything new =p

Hate to be the party pooper but just think of this game as DLC. If you never played GT5 then it's a must and the damage should be just like GT5 which means little dents here and there.

Xombito -

Do not listen to Mexicanfighte12. There are some revolutionary changes in store for users when GT6 arrives and can't be considered DLC.

Here is a quick list of what has been done that cant be considered DLC.

1 - Tire model designed by Yokohama Rubber.
2 - Suspension system with KW Automotive.
3 - Advanced Aerodynamics with the cars.
4 - Adaptive Tessellation for surface images.
5 - 50 times greater rendering engine.

Like I said if you never bought GT5 it should be a great game to buy but if you allready did I would suggest using that money for another purchase. Yeah it has little upgrades here and there new cars and tracks but judging from the demo it's almost the same game. :)

I take my comments back only because I buy COD annually for its awesome HS&D mode. It's obviously going to be a great game and its going to be worth every little penny it's just that to me it seems like a small upgrade. Yes COD it's probably worse depending on how you think but it's the mode's fault for making me buy it every year.

I definitely want Gran Turismo for the PS4, but I'm on the fence when it comes to getting another release for the PS3. There would have to be a huge difference between GT5 and GT6 for me to get it.

If I didn't monumentally suck at GT games, I'd definitely be in on this. I've always been impressed with the series - I just lack the skills to play.

Have you tried using a racing wheel?

Real world driving skills directly translate into driving skills on GT games, and a wheel is a vast improvement over a controller.

one of the last, R&C will probably end up releasing after this.
not to mention theres a multitude of ps3 games out next year as well.
i just hope GT6 is 1 a far better balanced quality over quantity experience.
its all good and well to have 300 different dishes on your menu, but when they taste like a monkeys severed rotting foot whats the point?
2 they need to put back the emphasis of licenses and training.
the original GTs were so great because they encouraged you to better yourself and gave you a bazillion and one training events to do so.
it was so addictive going through all the licenses and trying to get the gold trophy.
GT5 is far too much about racing around the track, they need to bring back every other element which made the series so great.
3 GT is for car lovers, so wheres all the car love?
it amazes and boggles the mind how year after year after year after year after year racing games come out, bring amazing cool new features, everyone adopts them, than GT comes round and ignores them.
why?
why are PD so hellbound resistant on bringing new features to the series?
exactly why forza will always be the best racing game out there!
it covers EVERYTHING!
not only racing around a track, it does all the little things too, and not only does them but does them brilliantly!

There's plenty of great reasons to keep the PS3. Beyond: Two Souls, Tales of Xillia 2, Yakuza 5, Dark Souls 2, Disgaea D2, Earth Defense Force 2025. I wouldn't say that GT6 is a great reason, either. Merely a decent one.

Outside of Beyond: Two Souls, none of those other games will even be in the same league as GT6. Only Dark Souls 2 has an outside shot.

Maybe I just don't hang with gear heads, or all those sales are coming from Europe. I have never seen anyone on my list playing GT. I personally hate it and all my friends hate it as well.

I'm glad a ton of people enjoy it and it's a cash cow for Sony. But to me it doesn't even exist.

It's specifically for car enthusiasts. Those who know something about cars and racing. It's a simulator...so in other words, NOT Forza. Any idiot can play Forza because it's barely a step ahead of NFS in terms of authenticity.

To most, GT isn't "fun" because it's so realistic. However, the reason GT has sold over 70 million units in its lifetime is because there are LOTS of gearheads out there.

Forza uses a rewind button. So when you flip your car over or drive off the line, you don't have to feel bad, feel like you'll lose or nothing. Imagine if more games used rewind buttons. Something like Demon's Souls would be a lot more accessible to people =p

Gran Turismo 5 was a lackluster effort. It's sitting at an 84 on Metacritic for a reason and it's not because people 'don't understand'. It's because Forza is the superior game and while name recognition will carry the franchise for a bit, Polyphony needs to step it up. I'll wait for next gen for that though. I'm done with them on the PS3.

I remember having GT5 pre-purchased as a Christmas gift. I waited until Christmas to play it. I remember feeling like PSXe was probably being biased, having maybe over rated it compared to the aggregate. I had just finished earlier that same year playing lots of Forza 3, like a LOT of it. Sure enough GT5 was a lot better than Forza in the physics and simulation department. The handling and car modeling quality felt so much more authentic that I just couldn't do Forza 3 anymore. So from that day forward I realized these guys were alright ;)

Anyway, Kid, if you've got a list of games that are important to you to play, enough to keep your PS3, that's all that matters. What's popular and 'elite' doesn't constitute what's worth your personal time. I'd take Double Dragon Neon over a whole lot of stuff out there and ain't nobody gives a crap but me about it.

Kid: We've explained this a hundred times. Video game critics are not racing professionals. They don't know a goddamn thing about racing or cars. And clearly, neither do you.

Here's a friendly warning- Don't ever give an actual racer the controller and tell them to play Forza. They'll laugh at you. It's a video game and feels like a video game, and they will tell you that. Give them GT5 and would you like a prediction as to the change in response?

Or do you feel your superior knowledge (based on nothing, as far as I can tell) about the sport is just unmatched? See, I don't know a thing about flying. But I'm not about to pass judgment on flight sims, just because I'm a game critic. Why? Because that'd be...well, stupid.
