PlayStation All-Stars Support Ceases

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that development for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has drawn to a close. There will be no more additional characters or other forms of content, but all the previously exclusive DLC will become available at some point.

Starting on August 27, players will be able to grab a bunch of pre-order skins that were once only available in the US as pre-order incentives. So, enjoy skins for Raiden, Heihachi, Dante and Big Daddy. They will also release a balance patch that tweaks player strength, weakness and functionality, along with free costumes for Zeus and Isaac Clarke. As for things they never quite managed to include:

"In the course of any game's development, there are always elements that never quite get finished or the team decides not to use in the final game. Some of these additional materials from the game’s development phase have been recently released, but unfortunately, these are very far from finished assets and were not included in the final game for a number of production and legal reasons."

There was a rumor that Legend of Dragoon protagonist Dart was going to be added to the roster. But obviously, that isn't going to happen now. Oh well, guess you'll just have to replay LoD...wait, what? Haven't played it?! Shame on you. Such a great PlayStation RPG.

Would you consider this a failure? i have to admit I was not fond of it. I didn't like the gaemplay sturcture in gaining points buy using special attacks. But I am surprised the game has not had much of an impact over the gaming community as a whole...

For me it was always the cast, they had some obvious choices removed. It seems sort of redundant to have a game celecbrating Playstation characters and not bringing the likes of Crash and Spyro to the party. The new Tomb Raider was a suprise too - I thought with the new franchise this would have been a good opritunity to promote the new game. Also to finally hav the battle between Drake and Lara :P

I have bought LoD from the US PSN, the retail copy is so SO rare here in the UK that you'd have to be willing to fork out quite a bit for it. I do hope to sit down and play it soon. I did just complete The Last of Us on Survivor+ So it could well be my next game...

The headline's a bit strong - ceasing to produce content for the game doesn't mean ceasing of support, in an online-enabled age where matchmaking and possibly dedicated servers need to be maintained.

Personally, I think they gave up on the game too quick - it reviewed pretty well (particularly for a new franchise), by all accounts (I'm not a fighting game person, so can't add mine to the mix) played well, and had a lot of potential. Suspect it was a victim of Sony focussing on the bottom line at the moment, and it didn't do well enough, quick enough, to maintain interest - but I'd wager it could have built a following over time.

I loved it, but I quickly grew tired of it.

This is kind of sad, I think this game is a blast, I wish it took off more.

I was really hoping for Kazuma Kiryu!
