PSXE Poll Update: PS4 Launch Lineup Is Okay, Not Great

The PlayStation 4 is a hot item already, but not everyone is sold on the launch lineup.

Our latest poll results indicate a generally favorable response to the PS4's lineup of launch software, but the majority have said it's just "okay." Killzone: Shadow Fall leads the charge, and a few other exclusives might be excellent. But it's not overwhelmingly fantastic, is it?

Perhaps this is the first time in history where several of the strongest titles for new hardware are third-party productions. Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, Madden NFL 25 and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag are gonna be massive, and all of them will likely be bigger than any exclusive set for either the PS4 or Xbox One. Shadow Fall should do well, as should Titanfall, but they can't aspire to the heights of the multiplatform franchises in terms of sales.

This week, what do you think about the PS4's $399 price tag? Is it too high, too low, or just right? Yes, it's the Goldilocks question, only concerning a piece of next-generation video game hardware.

If it was like Uncharted, released for PS VIta, i'll definitely get it day one. Killzone franchise, to me, is a bit weak to be a system seller. Something about first person shooter makes me feel disconnected from the main character.

Infamous looks amazing. I am debating if i should order now and let the PS4 sit there, or wait until february until Infamous releases.

take the money, but it in a good shares fund, and by the time infamous releases you will have enough profit to buy 2 ps4s!
exactly why i cant justify buying one now, theres no point spending 550 bucks on a system thats just going to gather dust for 4 months.
might as well put that 550 to something that actually will be beneficial for me!

Funny you should say that, one of my issues with Killzone (not hating, I do like the franchise) is that the camera is pretty low. It's in the center of the chest closer to the abdomen so it really does feel disconnected from a human. I like it when the view is up by the head.

That's how I feel about the majority of FPS's World. I just cannot stand looking down to see no legs, especially if you can look down at a 180 angle. I hope that will be a thing of the past next gen, along with games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls in where you pick up items and they just hover in front of a cursor, it just looks awful.

i think the launch line up for me is really gud it's got well all the sort of games i like with exclusives and they are a bunch of multi's i like to i cud give u a list of about 6 launch and about 10 or 11 by feb that i wud want. so that by my reackoning it's pritty dam gud. as for the price was expecting the nz price to be more than it is so i was really surprise but happy i was think 150-200 nzd more than they set so i'm a happy camper but i'm happy they made pritty afordable by most peoples reckoning.

happy gaming =)

I get sick when I play FPS so the only thing that really interests me is Knack. I'll probably wait till the ps4 costs under 400.

a shooter something were WELL catered for, and one that has never been that good or popular either!
a racing game which looks like it was stripped straight off facebook all the developers ever say is SOCIAL, SOCIAL, SOCIAL!!!!!!!!!
and knack, which the previews for it havent exactly been glowing.
only game im slightly interested in, but thats only because it was heavily inspired by the best franchise of all time, crash bandicoot!
god what i would do to turn back time and stop $ony letting it go.
one word to describe that list.
PATHETIC!
i mean when third party games look better and more exciting than those you know your in trouble!
not to mention all those third party games will be available weeks, if not months, prior to the ps4s launch.

its a shame $ony does not have many of their first party studios ready for launch.
infamous would of REALLY helped the launch sales, as would of a weird quirky ambitious title like ICO, as would of a emotional rollercoaster from QD.
still think making beyond for ps3 was a mistake, they should of released it as a ps4 title add 1 very unique rare game to its aling launch lineup.
they need a action hack and slash game too, something to fill the void for the MIA GOW title.
hell heavenly sword 2 would of gone down a BOMB!
i really wish $ony would buy out ninja theory, there one studio who is so immensely talented but never ever gets the recognition they deserve.
im really concerned after their next game releases, its going to flop again, and the studios going to go bye bye.
that would truly be a sad day for this industry, there one of the best developers we have!

as for the price tag i chose too low simply because it should of been allot more technically advanced.
it REALLY SUCKS when hardware gets left in the dark because of costs.
oculus rift a perfect example, EVERY problem that thing has could be solved, but wont be because they want to make a "consumer grade" device.
so the screen door effect, the poor brightness, the latency, the poor quality screen, everything will permanently be there because they want to create a cheap device.
and thats exactly whats happened for "next gen" consoles.
they could, and SHOULD, of been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more powerful!
but $ony just cannot afford to release a system at a loss, especially after hemorrhaging wound the ps3 has given them!
ever since the ps3 released every division has been bleeding money like theres no tomorrow!
and they THINK they cant afford to release a more expensive system because no one will buy it.
im not so sure though, if they gave us the massive technological leap ps3 gave us, let us play games in UHD instead of this crappy 1080P, hell even most games still are not 1080P like BF4.
if the ps4 truly was next gen then they could of sold it for a higher cost and it would of sold just fine!
but they cant afford to take the risk, not after all the hard work they have done digging themselves out of the demon hole the ps3 built.

Eh, the games tick the boxes. FPS, racer, KNACK(!), indies (Resogun looks really cool), but there's nothing inspirational at launch. Yakuza Ishin was just announced as a PS4 launch title in Japan (also available on the PS3) but we likely won't be getting it, considering the recent Yakuza 5 news. :(

It's to be expected, but "okay" pretty much sums it up for me. As for the price, I think that Sony has got it locked down well, but it's not low enough for me to be picking it up day one, considering the line-up, and what promises to be some big financial shortfalls next year.:D

The box I'd like ticked is RPG. Even PS2 had Summoner.

Grand Theft Auto 5, The Last of Us, Gran Turismo 6, Beyond Two Souls, Dark Souls 2, etc. That's enough games to play on the PS3 and wait until next Fall for a purchase. I mean with GTA5 you can go years without playing any other game.

What's the rush of buying a new system if I'm going to playing PS3? O_O

The price is perfect.

What's with all the 'fall'ing? Shadow Fall, Titanfall, Skyfall... Worldfall?

I think the launch lineup is fine (still a better list than what Wii-U originally offered but then again, what wasn't?)

I'm fine with waiting while the first-party studios work on big time games. Plenty of indie titles (such as Minecraft, Resogun, Oddworld, and Mercenary Kings) to keep me occupied.

I think that's what Sony's doing so great right now. Sure, indie titles are rarely system-sellers but they also offer plenty of games to play in-between big budget releases. That's why I think they'll do amazing this generation compared to last!

The price actually made me pre-order a PS4. ;)

The price is what had us all jaw dropped, I don't see how anyone can complain at that. But the launch titles fail to capture my interest. While there are some good games, Watchdogs, Assassins Creed IV, Driveclub for you racing fans, I just don't see them as system sellers. For me, it's all about Metal Gear Solid V, Now I know there will be a PS4 version, a PS3 version will not do. So I will buy a PS4 as soon as MGS5 is released.

But as many have stated the PS3 line up is still strong, GTA5, Beyond: Two Souls & Gran Turismo 6 just around the corner + That with all the flood of titles we've had this year that you may have missed and you're more than sorted for a while.

I think the launch line up would be viewed more highly if there wasn't such a decent run of games being released for the PS3 in the next few months. It certainly dilutes the impact.

As for the price, I agree that the price is about right for what we are getting however I am with those who would like to have seen Sony pushing technology and charging a higher price.
