GTAV Makes $800 Million In 24 Hours, A New Industry Record?
That's a good day's work.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two Interactive has revealed that Grand Theft Auto V is off to the fastest start in the franchise's storied history. It only took 24 hours for the game to generate over $800 million!
It's also a record for Take-Two, although the company didn't claim it as such. Last year, Activision said the $500 million Call of Duty: Black Ops II raked in was the biggest day one entertainment launch in the industry's history. Maybe Take-Two just didn't know. Well, anyway, here's what boss man Strauss Zelnick had to say:
"All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry's new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence."
GTAV has also garnered plenty of critical acclaim already, netting 15 perfect scores and an average Metascore of 97. Obviously, there's all sorts of controversy surrounding the title but it wouldn't be GTA without that controversy. You can expect to see our review of the massively epic game very soon but in the meantime, did you expect it to hit so hard on launch day? Like, $800 million hard?
