Watch Dogs Map More About "Density" Rather Than Size
Size isn't everything.
While Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin emphasizes that the world map in Watch Dogs is "huge," he wants to make it plain that it's not about size, but density.
During a recent Eurogamer interview, Morin compared the world of Watch Dogs to Rockstar's massive Grand Theft Auto V.
"GTA5 has a huge world but it has flying, it has jets so it serves that purpose. You don't have a jet unless you have the space to fly into. Us, we have huge density, so if we double or triple the scale then you're going to start hitting repetition because we wanted to aim for the density first. We wanted the game to be the right size for that density, so it's a matter of balancing what you want to achieve."
Morin added that in Watch Dogs, you might "stand still and profile people for ten minutes," so you can actually play without moving. He says this is more important to him because the experience is about more than just moving from Point A to Point B. And of course, it has been confirmed that Ubisoft's anticipated open-world title won't include airplanes. It has also been revealed that it will be running at a "steady 30FPS" on the PS4 and Xbox One, which many gamers don't like.
