GTAV Sets Guinness World Record For Day-One Worldwide Sales

Time for Grand Theft Auto V to take its place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

When Rockstar's latest masterful achievement launched, it was reported that the game generated over $800 million in just 24 hours and over $1 billion in three days. And although publisher Take-Two Interactive hasn't disclosed the exact unit sales, Guinness "worked directly with Rockstar Games on obtaining the figures" (as cited by GameSpot).

The exact numbers? GTAV sold 11.21 million copies in that initial 24-hour stretch, which resulted in $815.7 million in total revenue. This makes it the best selling video game of all time in a one-day period. However, it's interesting to note that Take-Two wouldn't confirm the statistics, saying they "can't verify the accuracy" and they have yet to comment on GTAV's performance thus far.

Well, it's safe to assume we'll learn all about it when Take-Two presents their quarterly results in a few weeks time.

What I really admire about the GTA series isn't the popularity or quality, actually it's the ability to keep on being successful while being the utter embodiment of everything that the media hates about video games. It just does its thing and not only can't they stop it, they can't even slow it down.

Does it really matter? I did not realize it was a competition, but maybe it is. Good on them.

Still not interested in the games. To each their own and ...

Keep playing!

If any game could beat CoD it would be this one. It's the only game that could attract the "D baggery" that CoD has tapped into.
