All Versions Of CoD: Ghosts Will Enjoy Dedicated Servers

Well, anything that increases the connectivity quality is probably a good idea.

According to Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin, all versions of the anticipated Call of Duty: Ghosts (current- and next-gen consoles and PC) will feature dedicated servers for online multiplayer.

The news was revealed via Twitlonger; the post talks about the developer's plans to deliver a stable, entertaining online experience. And to do so, they'll be utilizing a "hybrid system of dedicated servers." As Rubin wrote:

"...in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible."

This is part of the team's overall plan to improve connectivity, so players should be pleased with that. Call of Duty: Ghosts is scheduled to launch on November 5 for the PS3, 360, Wii U and PC, and it will be a launch title for the PS4 and Xbox One. Got yours pre-ordered yet? Or are you too busy running around Los Santos like a madman?

yah, man, see you in the CoD lobbies World. We'll tear it up.

So guess what. MGS Revengenace is now coming to EU PS+ subscribers for FREE free FREE in November. Lemme guess, US subscribers will get...... Journey? Flower? ... worst yet, Flow? Older games most everyone has or could have for dirt cheap.

haha yeah see you there. I'm sure we won't get that for a long time if ever, but we finally got Amalur after a long time so maybe it's possible. That's the only way I'd play revengeance though beyond the demo. Controls bugged me.

I have never played a Call of Duty game (and yes I am that one guy who has not). I have bought the last 2 Battlefield games mainly because I got to play the demo beforehand. I had plains to buy Ghost but then I played Battlefield 4’s demo and now plain to get that game.

"Or are you too busy running around Los Santos like a madman?" Hehehe.

Dedicated servers, seriously hope we won't see in game hackers this time around, especially when PSN+ offers a fee for online play in the next gen.

I would hope they have things in place to stop cheaters and harassers since we do pay to play online now.

It only took them how many years to put all that money they made back into the game.

I'm confused about what they mean by hybrid system though.

Oh well, I'm more interested in KZ:SF than any other shooter this year, BF4 demo was cool but I want something different.

Yeah. The word "hybrid" worries me too. So like... efficient in terms of power and energy? Will they actually host -all- information exchange? Or just help?

Maybe it means the servers will run on solar energy during the daytime? :).

I agree, will be interesting to know the details. At the very least, things are moving in the right direction.

I'm wondering if it means the game will determine if you get to play on dedicated or with peer to peer depending on how many people around you are playing?

Either way its a stupid system except for people in countries where dedicated servers wouldn't work.

But North America and Europe should all have their own dedicated servers. I mean come on its not like they don't have the money :P

Oh man, after how many CoD's, and they are just now using dedicated servers? Most certainly and definitely the greatest FPS franchise ever. 10/10

So what's the big deal? I've played CoD on both Xbox and PS3 and I see no difference.

The difference wouldnt be between the consoles. The PC versions ran on dedicated servers, whole the consoles have always been non-dedicated. Dedicated servers are on 24/7 and act only as a server, much better for large servers. While non-dedicated act also as a workstation or a peer to peer network where things can get - for a lack of a better word and more knowledge - overloaded. Why online games run on non-dedicated servers at all is beyond me.

Peer to peer is how CoD did it in the past and it basically sets one of the players as the host and then does a bunch of crap to try and make things "balanced" for everyone on the server. But most people know of the term host advantage and a lot of the time you could feel it when playing these games. The host and people close to the hosts location got great pings, while everyone else had to deal with it.

Likewise they tried to introduce a lag compensation thing and this made things bad for everyone.

Suffice to say dedicated servers should have been here for this game years ago. Not that I really care I don't play these anymore but still for the fans of the series you would think Activision would use the billions they make to set up servers.

Little late for that, IW. You've lost me as a customer when you lied about having a brand new next generation engine for Ghosts.
