Infinity Ward Comments On Riley's Fate In Call Of Duty: Ghosts

Oh man, whatcha gotta go and kill the dog for?

Well, maybe they will, maybe they won't. Developer Infinity Ward hasn't hinted whether or not Riley the dog would bite the dust in Call of Duty: Ghosts, but executive producer Mark Rubin admits that most people expect the crowd favorite canine to die in the game. During a recent Associated Press interview, Rubin had this to say about the controversy:

"Everybody thinks we're going to kill the dog. Maybe that's the expected thing we would do, so maybe it's not what we'll do? We'll see. People around here didn't know, and they had that same sentiment: 'We better not kill the dog.' The emotional investment for the dog here has been just as strong as what's happening out in the public."

Back in June, Infinity Ward community manager Tina Palacios was quoted as saying that the subject was a "constant debate" around the office, although they had already concluded the dog's fate. Riley has been pretty popular since his introduction during the Xbox One announcement in May, and he will act as a valuable companion in the upcoming CoD installment. With this rise in popularity, the designers thought about giving Riley an even bigger role, but they decided against it:

"There was a risk of shoehorning the dog into scenes where he wasn't originally going to be. Fortunately, that only lasted for a few weeks and everybody got back to concentrating on making the game. It's great that Riley is so popular, but let's focus on the game. Let's have Riley make sense and not just put him in space or in a scuba suit."

Probably a good idea. So, what are they going to do with Riley...?

I hate when they kill the dog in everything. It was painful enough to beat up those dogs in Beyond Two Souls.

People? I'll gladly slide a knife across they throats, dog killing is a no no.

I reckon he'll go down with either distemper or rabies and get taken on a one way trip to the vet ...

They'll kill the dog and claim that they're being "edgy".
