Batman: Arkham Origins Launch Trailer: A Dark, Fiery Hero

The end of this week sees the release of two potentially fantastic Batman games.

One is for the PS3 and 360 and it's called Batman: Arkham Origins. You may have heard of it. It's slated to arrive on October 25 and it's gonna be totally, wickedly bad-ass.

Don't take our word for it; just check out the launch trailer that came out today. It features a very serious, very muscular, very deadly Batman, who makes quick work of his enemies. There's a certain intimidating foreboding in the atmosphere, as if Gotham is somehow even darker than usual. Expect great drama that may even go beyond standard comic fare, and expect another excellent combat mechanic along with all sorts of cool toys.

By the way, the other title is Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for the Vita. Get 'em both to get the full effect.

The Batman Arkham games have had great reviews and word of mouth but I have not been able to get into the games. My loss I guess. Just an example of a great game that just is not for everyone.

Agreed, it's the combat for me. It's like a slip n slide instead of dealing out punishment.

I like how this Batman has a substantial suit instead of inside out underpants.

Cool.
I watched a recent game play walkthrough with the devs offering commentary.
Unfortunately it seemed to confirm what I was expecting. That it will be a predictably safe follow up to the Arkham games. Unless reviews suggest otherwise I'll wait for this one to come down in price.
I'm more excited with what Rocksteady is designing for the next-gen over this second hand offering. That should be awesome.

Prequels always do that, which is why I'm always wary.

I'm fine if the story takes place before another game. If the game design didn't seem so 'safe' and predictably upgraded I wouldn't have a problem.

A good example of a prequel done right is MGS3. It was my fav of them all at the time of release. It's because Kojima took the time to craft a worthwhile game. Where it wasn't just passed off to some B team to be made to narrow the gap between franchise releases. I wish more devs would create games that felt improved more by way of substance over feeding appetites. I'd rather have had Assassin's Creed, AC2 (with a fixed money system), AC BH & AC Rev blended into one game and presumably AC3 and AC4 blended as one game as well.

but I do basically agree. Most prequels do seem to be treated as safe afterthoughts. I just think when a dev wants to make it great, they can if they really wanted.

i just bought the game today.. i don't care about the lower than expected reviews of the game from IGN and other gaming sites... I enjoyed playing arkham asylum and arkham city, and i'm pretty much sure that i'll be enjoying this latest installment in the arkham series...
