GT6 UK Sales Low, Impacted By Multiple Negative Influences?

The latest Gran Turismo is not off to a good start in the UK.

According to sales data released by Gfk Chart-Track, first-week sales of Gran Turismo 6 only come to about one-fifth of the week-one tally for GT5. There were no specific numbers provided and we haven't yet heard about the game's performance in the US.

However, there are a few factors to consider. There's a good chance that the recent launch of the PlayStation 4 may have negatively impacted the sales potential for GT6. The new system just came out in the UK on November 29, after all. Then you have another potential problem: It's possible that GT6 might come to the PS4 in 2014 and furthermore, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said it's possible that GT7 might be on store shelves within "a year or two." Lastly, Chart-Track's stats do not include any sales of the game made on the PSN.

As is the case with the game itself, a lot of people are overlooking critical elements of the analysis. Also, let's not forget that reviews always play a role in a game's overall sales potential and thus far, GT6 is only averaging about an 8. That's well below the franchise's normal high standards but to further elaborate on that, we point you in the direction of this article.

it just seems wrong that GT6 is rating in the same range as GRID2. I love GRID2 and all but a GT game is so much more involved and a labor of so many more hours.

anyway, yah, it would seem there's a lot of GT6 that doesn't make for good marketing. It's overshadowed by the PS4. It's overshadowed by the semi announcement of GT7 coming soon. It also has lower scores for an elite franchise.

well. Gamespot weighed in with a 7. Seems to be written by a car enthusiast too. I really question the audio complaints.
I've read PD has spent lots of time accurately capturing car and engine sounds. Could the perception of what a gamer believes a real high powered car should sound like be different than reality? I somehow doubt people don't regularly drive super cars and exotic sports cars themselves so how could they know? whereas PD and their team are obtaining true samples as reference.

EDIT: an to appeal to the more tangible quality to everyone, that being graphics, if PD accurately captures the appearance and geometry of a track at levels that far exceed the norm would they suddenly hold audio to a much lower standard? I don't buy it. I don't buy that PD is the problem here as their car handling and attention to detail in other areas suggest to me their audio would be of an equivalent standard.

Inaccurate and unskilled review. Just some points I've seen in skimming-

He says you're stuck with the Honda Fit for the first 90 minutes of the game, which is entirely false. You're forced to buy it at first, but if you don't like it, you could easily go buy another car that's equal (or even better) with the credits left over, and winning credits from the first race or two. That does not take an hour and a half.

The first vehicle you unlock may not be a go-kart; it depends on how you approach the game. Wasn't my first unlocked vehicle, that's for sure. I don't even know why it matters, actually.

Saying license tests are old-fashioned is retarded. It's how you test your driving skill. It's how you build your skill. Not every human alive already knows everything there is to know about driving; in fact, most don't. As Rocksmith teaches you how to play guitar, GT really seeks to teach you the ins and outs of driving and racing. Hence, TESTS.

Saying there are some ugly rock textures in the distant backgrounds of a track is beyond anal. How do you even see that unless you STOP the car on the track and peer at the backdrop?

"Powerful supercars still sound like lawnmowers and hairdryers." Yeah, no they don't.

The complaint about AI not acknowledging you or other cars is common, but flawed. It's a result of people not knowing how to drive and not understanding racing. In a race, even a road race, yeah, most racers take the same line. That's because 99% of the time, there's really only ONE CORRECT LINE TO TAKE. That's racing. The only valid argument is that they don't change their pattern quite enough when you're in the thick of things.

Then there's all the complaining about how long it takes to build up credits. Nothing new in this series and you won't hear fans complaining.

Lastly, isn't it at all curious that he spends his time explaining how "flawless" the control is and how basically every aspect of a SIMULATION RACER is not only intact, but excellent? What, we're going to gloss over all of that - the only critical parts of the entire production - because of a grainy rock and your inability to grasp the professional racing circuit?

Genuinely surprised. I remember GT5 being a very big thing here in the UK. I have to admit racing is not my thing, I prefer fun kart racers over racing simulators. I bought Sonic All-star Racing Transformed for the Wii-U & have been having a blast with it.

I think it's down to the PS4 primarily but I felt from the trailers that it looks like more of GT5, than something massively advanced.

I preordered GT6 and still haven't received it yet. Not happy.

Dumb, dumb idea to release such a big game after the new console arrived.

I think it has a lot to do with how delayed GT5 was. It really threw the team out of sync with the console cycle. That is, they began on GT6 several years ago, before the PS4 even had a synthetic spec. I suppose it may have been a question of PD sitting on their hands until the PS4's tech would be made more known or to just go ahead and do another PS3 GT and transition after that. The GT franchise isn't like your typical game production. A whole lot of surveying and research is needed to make it accurate and then implement it all to the hardware. While I really think from a marketing perspective having GT6 ready for last holiday season would've been better, it's nice PD didn't lower their standard to cobble together an upscaled port of a PS3 game for PS4's launch. THat wouldn't have been so great either.

You know, Gran Turismo always had and I still think it has the throne of the best racing game. It kind of gives you that feeling of "You think you're good because you play Need For Speed or Forza? Come test yourself here"--- I think a lot of critics just prefer the not so realistic racers such as NFS or Forza.

Gran Turismo has maintained the same formula but has only enhanced it and that may not sit well with certain critics as well.

Just a few cents.

I got the game on day 1 and I love it.

I think this game is just experiencing some hiccups that will all be made up later on in the future. Likely with the release of GT7 on PS4.

Should have been on PS4. This was a mistake and I really think the sales numbers are going to be poor for GT6.

I don't own PS4 and many others are in the same boat. That would have been a lot of lost sales for GT6.

I don't play racing games, but I think it was the micro transactions that caused lower than expected sales.

I'm a big GT fan, but moving on to the PS4 really held me back from getting this one, that being said I think my wife got it for Christmas...she's been dropping a lot of hints.

I just think it was poor timing. Pretty much everyone is caught up on PS4 and next-gen gaming. I really hope they waited and release 6 on PS4 rather then released on PS3.

The number of PS3 owners far out way the number of PS4 owners. From the numbers alone, I see why they released on the PS3 for the holidays. Time will tell if it was the right call.

I could not care less for this game but even if I were a huge racing fan I'd most definitely wait for the PS4 version. I am certain there's many out there who think like I do.

Heck, now that I think about it I can prove I would: I *am* a huge GTA fan and still I wait for the PC/PS4 version of GTA5.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the important detail that the "first week" stats is actually like 3-day stats since the game was apparently released on a friday, compared to wednesday for GT5, which would account for at least a little bit of that difference, still not good numbers obviously...

maybe a little, but no where near as much as others.
releasing on a now defunct system certainly did not help.
nor did releasing only 2 years after GT5, timeframes really dont matter as long as theres enough improvement and content to justify another sequel.
but thats where the problem lies, very little is improved, and very little is fixed in the complaints people had with 5.
and thats exactly why its been getting bad reviews, i could swear GT is made by nintendo, its so thickheadded in its old ways, and refuses to listen to complaints and advice, and add features that because industry standard TEN frigging years ago!
exactly why i refuse to buy another GT game, not until they wake up and realize its no longer 1990, there no longer the only racer sim on the market, and start offering what others have offered for over 10 freaking years!

But the PS3 isn't defunct.

I am aware of a few niggles with GT5 but I wonder if you could list some of the complaints which haven't been fixed?
