Sony Pictures Prepping Movie Based On Sonic The Hedgehog?

Okay, this I'm fairly certain we don't need.

According to Kotaku, Sony Pictures has registered several new domains that hint at a movie based on the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

The freshly registered domains are as follows:

sonicthehedgehog-movie.com
sonicthehedgehog-movie.net
sonicthehedgehogmovie.net

They were all registered last week although thus far, Sony Pictures hasn't announced any such project. For the record, though, Sony Pictures Animation is responsible for animated and live-action/CG productions, so they might be the perfect studio to tackle this game-to-movie adaptation. And besides, given the mediocrity of many recent Sonic installments, it probably can't hurt the series at this point.

I'm just wondering who might play Dr. Robotnik...

Sony appears to be doing a full-court push on CGI game properties. I think it's a fantastic idea. Once they found out that the Heavenly Sword movie could look nearly as good as a Disney movie on just a shoestring budget they probably saw a business opportunity. Games to live action don't work, games to CGI movies usually work much better.

I remember seeing a short fan-made film based on Sonic that fused live action with CGI. It was okay, for what it was, but when you started to think about it, it was actually really bad. Sorry, but there is just no way, no how that Sonic needs a movie. At least with Ratchet and Clank and Heavenly Sword there is the possibility to offer a fairly decent narrative alongside the inevitable action.

Smurfs was really good, I was like "that's going to suck." But after watching it, its actually pretty good. Its no Shrek, but still good. I bet the Sonic movie won't be bad either. Not 10 stars, but decent enough.
