FFX, X-2 Script Writer: "I Would Like To See Final Fantasy X-3"

The franchise's first true sequel came in the form of Final Fantasy X-2. Did you want another one?

Because FFX and FFX-2 writer Kazuhige Nojima does. During a recent FF-Reunion interview (as translated by Gematsu), he said that if the demand for a sequel is there, something could happen. He also added:

"I, personally, would like to see a sequel such as Final Fantasy X-3."

If you've forgotten, the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster set will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Vita in North America on March 18. The collection features high-definition overhauls of the two games in the title, and die-hard series followers everywhere can't wait for it to arrive. But how would they respond to a sequel? A lot of people never gave X-2 enough credit for its more refined combat mechanic; too many just focused on the J-Pop style and the "girly" atmosphere.

It was indeed a little feminine. After all, the three main characters were all female. But that didn't stop the game from being great...although I'm not sure I'd trust Square Enix with that same structure now. Yuna already had guns; they'd just turn her into the female Dante and pretend it's Devil May Cry. And then I'd have to vomit.

The current Square Enix isn't good enough to work on the series. X-2 was a departure, but X-3 would be a disaster if you project how it would be based on the XIII saga. For God's sake leave it alone you cash hungry sons of goats.

They know X/X-2 HD is going to sell a ton and put Lightning Returns to shame.

Even if SE were still at the top of their game this would be a bad idea!!! Ive never been a fan of X-2. Im wondering what will be next since they are finally done with Lightning.

They cannoooot do this. I haven't even dreamt of how another 50-75hr story can continue from X-2 and be at least its equal.

This wouldn't be a good idea even if they did still know what they're doing.

Even with the remaster, this would be way too late. Don't care about the logistics of the game, it makes no sense. Forget about it and move on. Five us XV, XVI and when they fail to live up to the FFs of yore, come up with something new.

I think we deserve a new cast of characters, this it's why my fave era of the franchise were in the PSX three games all of them different characters, of course the same happened with the Snes but I barely had games on it.

Ugh, no, the timing is just too late. There was no reason for Final Fantasy X-2 in my eye and the whole game was just a massive diversion of filler to produce the ending - which is the only worth while event in X-2.

I haven't played Final Fantasy X-2 since release, but I don't remember there being much room for a sequel. I have ad though that the audiobook tale with the new HD collection has been leaked and it apparently heavily hints at a X-3...

I love Final Fantasy X, it has the best fighting system in any FF, the story and structure of the pilgrimage was just superb, each lead character felt unique and had their own conflicts and there was just so much to do. But much like XIII-2, X-2 was a mistake and I just cannot comprehend why they are going down this route when the recent sequels of XIII are not successful. No more sequels S-E, make each new Final Fantasy a fresh experience again, still waiting for Final Fantasy XVI here...

Ironically, I think FFX-2 has the best battle system of the franchise. The gameplay alone was reason enough to play it, imo.

FFX was high on my list, though.

For me it was X, Switching characters in battle was just so well done. But What I love most about the battle system in X is how cinematic it was. Never before or since has the map of the battles been so dynamic, think of battles like the opening in Zanarkand where you "Cut through" the sin spawn and attack the generator or The first boss encounter with Sin where the fin surround the boat, traveling either side, it was just so exciting. The little interactive elements made it for me. Also how could I forget the Aeons, controlling the Aeons as characters was just epic.

I think my favorite part of X's battle system was having a bunch of characters, and none of them were bench-sitters. You didn't gravitate towards your own party. They all had a purpose.

Just give me FFXII HD and I'll be happy. Stop it with the sequels already.

I have a feeling they would mess it up if they did try to make an X-3.. I have no confidence/faith in SE to do it properly.

Why would you want to make a sequel to a poorly received sequel in the first place? I just don't understand how the conversations in the board room could possibly lead in that direction. If you absolutely had to do a sequel try ine that hasnt been done before. I know I will probably get down voted all to hell for saying this but what about ff7-2? They would sell a million copies on name alone.

theirs always room for a sequel but to make a sequel work is another story
they always can pull out an experiment goes wrong or use years later

and ill agree making X-3 is a bad idea
anybody remember that meeting square had awhile back when they said they'll be re looking at what works and nobody believed them
well likely they are litterally looking at what Works they see Fans saying FFX was the Last True FF and so they decided hey why not a sequel to X-2

and lets look at 1 other thing re using the same world is cheaper than making a new world so their cutting costs with making sequels yes its the Lazy cheap way out

square climbed that ladder sat on top of it now have taken a suicide dive off it throwing away everything that they worked for all for trying to Modernize their games
