The Last Of Us Earns GameSpot's People's Choice Award For 2013

Our Game of the Year Awards are in the books, and our overall GotY honor went to Naughty Dog's masterpiece, The Last Of Us.

It also won our reader's choice for Game of the Year 2013 in a landslide victory. And although GameSpot gave GotY to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, their People's Choice Award was another easy decision: Yep, TLoU has another fan accolade.

The widely acclaimed PlayStation 3 exclusive earned an overwhelming 27% of the reader vote, while Bioshock Infinite was a distant second at 15% and Grand Theft Auto V came in at 14%. That's not entirely dissimilar to our reader voting, although GTAV definitely outstripped the latest Bioshock relatively easily. There's no doubt that The Last Of Us has captured the hearts of millions of gamers worldwide, and we're willing to bet that it'll continue to win awards through the first part of 2014. More award ceremonies are on the way.

For the record, A Link Between Worlds did win our Non-PlayStation Game of the Year Award. If you had to pick a GotY other than the Big 3 listed here, what would it be?

Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag on PS4 makes my Top 3 behind The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite.

Ni No Kuni.

It's kinda rewarding to have Gamespot have a people's choice for TLOU by such a landslide. Especially after so many people wrote off this site's pick because it's a PS3 exclusive.

Which is kinda silly, people the world over didn't love The Last of Us because it was an exclusive. That kind of stuff does happen but usually early in a generational fight and not when the quality is in dispute.

The funniest thing I've seen so far (over on the GOTY page) is the argument of this site's bias towards TLOU over KZ:SF... you know... because of the exclu...sive.... pref..erences.......... yeah.

lol yeah. I'm having a blast with Shadow Fall right now but it isn't getting mixed reviews for nothing. I might do a deeper analysis of it later because the game kind of deserves another look. The best way to explain why it isn't visually better than The Last of Us is just that it doesn't achieve as much no matter how much cleaner everything is.
