Which Established Franchise Should Be Mercifully Laid To Rest?
There are some franchises that gamers see as beyond saving. Or maybe it's just a series that has gone on for so long that we're all sick to death of it.
Do you think such a franchise exists? Has a certain IP simply overstayed its welcome? Which is the one that is running on fumes? Which won't benefit from a fresh coat of paint?
Perhaps the most important thing to remember is that above all else, game developers do want to create new things. On the other hand, if the market demands repeat performances of successful productions, that's what publishers want. And if that's what publishers want, that's what developers need to make. Unless a studio is inherently wealthy, they need the help of a publisher, yes? Ironically, the same people that complain about the situation are part of the same group that dictates the situation: The consumers.
So, if there is a series that you believe needs to disappear, why? Is it something consumers simply don't want anymore? Or has the publisher misread consumer interest? Is the quality of the IP dropping and is there no easy fix? I find it difficult to bid farewell to established franchises that have delivered so much joy to so many. But all things run their course and eventually, you just have to accept that the series in question isn't what it once was. It's just disappointing on all fronts and so, maybe it should be laid to merciful rest... Better than painfully struggling on, isn't it?
What leaps to mind?
