Minecraft Passes 1 Million PS3 Sales

Everyone loves Minecraft.

It took some time for the phenomenon to reach the PlayStation 3 but once it did, it exploded, as it did on other platforms. Developer Mojang has announced that Minecraft has sold over 1 million copies on PS3 since it released in December 2013.

Said Mojang's Daniel Kaplan on the company's official website:

"That has to be some kind of record on PSN, no?"

Minecraft was the best-selling digital title on the PSN in December, even outstripping blockbusters like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Grand Theft Auto V. Mojang intends to deliver the uber-popular game to the PS4 and Vita at some point as well, but we haven't received any exact dates. I can't really see this game on Vita but then again, maybe it'd be the perfect time-passer and stress reliever if you're out and about.

Minecraft is just one of those games...if it hooks you, you're in for good.

Personally I tried to like this game but i just couldn't get into it. However, glad that they are having good success on the ps3, but feels like it took them way too long to bring it to the platform.

Microsoft made a deal with Mojang to make it a time exclusive

Yeah, that was the reason. MS threw cash at Mojang to prevent the game from appearing on the PS3. And they did something similar this gen. That's why the Xbone got a Minecraft game first. But they're making one for the PS4 as well.

Its not my type of game, but I understand that Minecraft has the same appeal to present-day kids as Pokemon did with kids from the 90's.

You'll either love it like nothing else you've ever played or you'll just be left cold. There's really no in-between. If you get into it, then it'll suck up hours of your life. It didn't really get it's hooks into me (played on 360) but I would sometimes just let it run in the background and listen to the soundtrack while I did other things.

As both a gamer and a father I must say that the success of Minecraft is one of the most uplifting phenomenas in recent gaming history.

To see that it turns out that despite the sea of ultra-violence and near-life realistic models and animations flooding the market in all it's gloss and glory, what hordes of gamers really want is just to be creative and imaginative.

Agree +10.

It's all about options, diversity, and immersion. Gameplay trumps flash and pizazz a million times over.
