Sly Cooper Animated Film Announced

Sly is going Hollywood.

Sony has announced a movie based on their esteemed Sly Cooper franchise. An animated feature film due in 2016, it's described as a "kinetic and comedic heist" picture that tells the story of an orphaned raccoon (Sly) and his buddies, Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo. "TMNT" director Kevin Munroe handled the screenplay and he will also direct.

After learning of his family's "secret legacy," Sly is off on a whirlwind adventure. As Sony explains:

"Sly and his friends are catapulted into a global adventure as they race to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding The Cooper Clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk – an evil Russian metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line. From romantic Parisian backdrops to the lush mountains of China, gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels in this origin story of the world’s greatest thief-turned-hero."

The two studios involved in production are the same ones cranking away on a "Ratchet & Clank" movie: Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. The trailer is available below and fans ought to be encouraged. For some reason, it seems less likely that they'll screw up an animated film. You can at least make a good one of those, right? Just make the kids laugh and you're golden.

This is awesome and totally unaware. My first thought was how great Ratchet and Clank would be in a movie. Double the good news!

Don't much like the look of Murray... but this was pretty brilliant. Makes me hope that Sony has got someone cranking away on a new Sly game to try to capitalise on the hype (and reminds me to put Sly 4 at the top of my to-buy list).

A friend of mine whose a big Sly fan is going to flip out. This is great, hopefully they won't do to it what they did to the Resident Evil movies...

they wont continue their franchises with the way they started, and should, games, but they will do it with ways they can only end in one way.
very poorly, making reviving the franchise as likely as us ever seeing half life 3!
and its these genius decisions which turned $ony from one of the biggest most profitable companies out there, to the company who just yesterday had their value derated to JUNK!
sigh, i always said the company would fall apart as soon as father ken left, but they did not have to prove it, and so quickly!
