Child Of Light: The Turn-Based Fairtyale Launches On April 30

If you're a veteran role-playing fan, it's time to circle a date on your calendar.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the anticipated Child of Light will launch on April 30, 2014. It will be available to download on the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and PS4, Xbox Live for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, the Nintendo eShop for Wii U, and Steam for PC. It holds a reasonable price tag of $14.99.

Generated by a small team at Ubisoft Montreal, the game utilizes the powerful UbiArt Framework engine. This great piece of tech allows "programmers and artists to bring their art to life by allowing original concept art to be inserted unedited into the game world." The result is similar to playing an "interactive painting." A re-imagining of classic fairytles, Child of Light features turn-based combat and a beautiful, mysterious world. You play as Aurora, who must rescue the sun, moon and stars from the Queen of the Night.

A fantastical coming-of-age story mixed with old-school RPG elements, this one should be a straight-up winner. Ubisoft also revealed a new trailer; check it out:

Weird to see "Classic turn-based RPG combat" listed as a positive in this awful action based world we live in. Hope it catches on.

Anyone excited for tomorrow? Anyone else picking up Bravery Default?!

I'm getting this game Day1 too. I love the price point and the oldschool graphics/gameplay.

Intended on getting it, but got rid of my 2DS. I'll hold out until I pick up a 3DS XL like I want.

Aw... I was hoping it'd hit the Vita too, now that I finally got one. Alas, it will see the PS3, so I won't be missing out.

Looks beautiful... Whatever they invested in that engine, if a small team of people can get those kind of results, I say it paid itself... Will get it without a doubt...

I think there is plenty of room in the market for both turn based and action based RPGs. Key word RPG and we can never get enough of those.

Uhh, yes. Not a hard decision for me when it comes to supporting this. I vow to support as many turn-base rpgs from this point forward (especially console RPG).

I hope this does for $15 RPGs what Guacamelee did for $15 fighting platformers.

It looks just brilliant, in so many ways.
