PS3 News: Major NBA License Announcement Coming

Major NBA License Announcement Coming

Word came down earlier today that the NBA and a pair of major video game publishers have reached a deal that will limit which companies get to produce NBA based basketball games in the future.

We tried to contact NBA media relations for comment, and were told that an official announcement, complete with details of which companies are involved, will be released on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

Buzz on Internet forums is that one company will be given the rights to simulation-style games and the other will be given the rights to arcade-style games.

This could get interesting, what with EA already having struck an exclusive deal with the NFL that will last 7 years, and Take-Two locking up the 3rd party rights to the MLB for 5 years.
