2K "Looks Forward To Exploring The Next Bioshock Experience"

Essentially, Irrational Games is no more, but that doesn't mean the revered Bioshock franchise will disappear.

Publisher 2K Games isn't that stupid. Anybody with a brain assumed 2K would bring the Bioshock IP to another capable developer at some point and clearly, that's what they intend to do. Here's a statement 2K gave GameSpot:

"The BioShock universe remains a rich creative canvas for many untold stories, and we look forward to exploring the next BioShock experience."

Creator Ken Levine has formed a "smaller, more entrepreneurial" team at Take-Two, but he wanted to move on. As for his future projects, or if he'll have a hand in designing future Bioshock entries, that's all unknown at this point. He's just so important to the industry; we just want to see what he creates next. Here's the rest of the publisher's statement:

"BioShock is one of our most beloved and critically acclaimed franchises, and we are indebted to Ken and the talented team at Irrational Games for their contributions to the series with BioShock and BioShock Infinite; the latter being one of the most decorated games of 2013."

i was new to the BioShock franchise when BioShock Infinite was revealed
and released.

i don't like what Levine did, but if he's not going to be part
of the next BioShock game. than BioShock Infinite will
probably be the last BioShock i play.

This whole thing made me sad, the franchise is going to go straight down the tubes now. The intelligence quotient is going to drop to mass media level (produced for those with an 8th grade education), multiplayer will take over, and it'll end up being another FPS.

Levine plans to try to make these small games that experiment with replayable narrative, but I think that's going to fail.

It's going to leave a gaping hole in the industry.

It'll be just another cookie cutter shooter but with plasmids.

If they expand the Bioshock universe within either Rapture or Columbia, they'll be making a massive mistake. To be done right, this will require one of the most spectacular balancing acts the gaming industry has ever seen. They'll need conceptors and writers of the highest calibre and people on gameplay design that aren't afraid to step outside the norm.

2K Marin did an alright job with Bioshock 2, but it felt redundant. Whatever comes next will require years before it's ready, and even then it may very well still fall far short.

While I mostly agree, if they can't find that talent I'd rather they did let the Marin team run with it.

Sadly, Marin was shut down following the flop of The Bureau with its staff being moved to the San Francisco studio, which was headed up by Rod Fergusson who has now moved to Microsoft so... No idea what's going on there.

of course its going to continue its litterally printing money for them!
a more relevant question is will the replacing developer keep the quality and values that make bioshock so great.
and thats what im worried about.
take bioshock 2 for instance.
a much, much, much better game, the gameplay was better, the atmosphere was better, they brought in allot more character variations, it was just such a better game especially with the horror elements it implemented.
the ONLY thing about it that was worse, was its story, was its shock factor.
no game has had such a infamous line as bioshock, no game has had such a great twist, and thats what was so disappointing about infinite.
it was so predictable, so cliche!
and thats what worries me, bioshock was such a impact on the industry because of its amazing story.
im sure the next bioshock game will be a great GAME, but it wont deliver the surprise, and shock, that the original did.
and thats a dam shame!
so, ken, will you kindly........
