Square Squashes Final Fantasy XIII Rumors

Rumors about Final Fantasy XIII being a PlayStation 3 exclusive have been swirling about after a the rumors section in Electronic Gaming Monthly said that it could be a possibility. Usually a company will respond to rumors with a "no comment" or a "we don't comment on rumors or speculation" but not Square Enix; the've gone ahead and nipped this one in the bud, releasing the following statement:

"While there have been numerous rumors about Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix has never released any information about the title. The recent online article stating that the title will be exclusive for PlayStation 3 and shown at E3 is not based on any official information obtained by us. I hope readers will remember April Fool's day is tomorrow and many Print and Online outlets pull pranks ever year, before they get their hopes crushed by a joke."

Certainly a 13th iteration of the series is at least in the planning stages, but Square Enix isn't ready to talk about it just yet. Perhaps we'll hear something at E3, which is just a month and a half away.
