Record-Breaking Game Collection Sells For Over $750,000

The world's largest video game collection has been sold.

Record-holder Michael Thomasson has unloaded his massive collection at GameGavel; the 11,000-title lot went for $750,250. The winner, as indicated by the big history, goes by the username "peeps_10091970."

The winning user was in a bidding war with "catch123," who bid up to $750,000. Prior to the auction, Thomasson said the approximate value of his collection was between $700,000 and $800,000, and it looks like he was spot-on. If you're wondering, $750,250 works out to about $68 per game, so that's a pretty damn good deal for the seller, wouldn't you say? Sorry if you didn't get the chance to nab this mountain of video games but really, where the hell would you put it?

That's my reason for not bidding. Just no room.

I instantly thought of Biker Saint when I read about this. What I find really impressive is the fact that the guy sold off his collection of games twice (in the 80s and 90s) before amassing this incredible amount of games.

I'm thinking, if you have $750,000 to just throw around on ebay then you probably have enough money to build a developer and have them make whatever kind of game you want.

"68$ per game" What The!!?? They could have just walked into gamestop and bought their entire collection of games and save a ton of money lol

I doubt gamestop would have had the variety, history, or rarity of the complete 11,000+ title library.

Some titles would be worth $5 if that. The average comes from the packaged rare titles like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger that fetch for hundreds of dollars. Some are even more! Never mind being able to pay for games like that... being able to -FIND- them is impossible enough!
