Airtight Games Quietly Shutters Its Doors

Although it isn't official, Geekwire reports that studio Airtight Games is no more.

There's a picture that apparently confirms the closing of the Redmond, Washington office, which brings the team's 10-year run to a close. The company cut 14 jobs in April, which was described as a "necessary restructuring," and they also revealed they were trying to find partners for future projects.

Well, it seems all of that has fallen through, and only a month after the developer released the anticipated Murdered: Soul Suspect. The game didn't quite live up to expectations and sales were low, which obviously contributed to the demise of Airtight. The studio was also responsible for 2010's ill-received Dark Void and the much better Quantum Conundrum in 2012, a new puzzler from Portal 2 designer Kim Swift.

This industry is rough. Either you keep coming with the gems, or you'll eventually have to call it a day.

Good job Square. You murdered an entire company.

As much fun as it is to blame Square-Enix for everything, here it's Airtight Games fault. Game sold like crap because it reviewed poorly.

Square at least had the decency to give it a chance throwing the game on PS4 and Xbone during a gaming drought (which still didn't save it.

Expect this game to drop in price pretty fast.

Shame, they were pretty good with these smaller, different "B" games. Just an example of how that sort of thing really isn't sustainable these days. It's either AAA, or indie, sadly.

one thing that REALLY pisses me off about this industry!
churn out crap after crap after crap after crap after crap, and every one of your games selling really poorly, and you go on continuing your missery dragging down the whole industry, like rebellion have been doing for years.
but if you actually make a few half decent games, i mean murdered soul suspect and quantum conundrum were actually half decent games, and quite creative!
and they get shut down.
sigh.
creative and half decent, goodbye.
crap, buggy, frustrating, poor sales, hello come rip my house apart.
WTF!?
no justice in this industry none whatsoever!!!!!!!

This is, most likely, the main reason we see the same games year in and year out. A company finds something that works and the only real business option is to stick with it until you wring it dry. I have been noticing more and more studios closing their doors or getting pushed in with other bigger studios and it usually happens to the companies that try to bring something new to the table. I love Murdered: Soul Suspect. Of Course, the one studio that proves the opposite of this is Naughty Dog. Seems like no matter what they touch it is gold. I love to see variety but most of the time it comes at a price for these smaller studios. I hate to see this.
