Analyst: Activision Buying Take-Two Is A "No-Brainer"
Perhaps the single biggest publisher of video games in the world could really solidify its #1 position if they purchased Take-Two Interactive, which puts out the vaunted Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead and Borderlands franchises. These would be added to current Activision IPs like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Skylanders, and the upcoming Destiny.
In a report published on Friday, Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey says such a deal has obvious benefits:
"For Activision, acquiring Take-Two Interactive would be a no-brainer, in our view, circling some of the strongest development talent and owned IP in the world, within a company that has nearly $1 billion in cash and trades at a comparably lower multiple."
Activision and Take-Two also have a shared interest in the movie business, and Hickey adds that there may be some "fatigue" associated with current Activision franchises Call of Duty, Skylanders and World of Warcraft. Well, if you toss 'em something like GTA, there will be no stopping them ever, right?
